Sean Merrill has experienced a
soggy week.
"I went to the Florida-Tennessee game last
weekend and got absolutely soaking wet, and now I'm outside watching this
hurricane (Isidore) trying to see what it's going to do," he said. "We're
down here right on the coast. It's not too bad as far as hurricanes go, but
it's raining like crazy. It's a pain in the butt. You can't go anywhere or
do much of anything."
Kind of like the feeling opposing
quarterbacks and running backs feel when Merrill (6-4, 280, 4.85, 375 bench)
is in their path. The
Rivals100 member has recorded 25
tackles and five sacks in D'Iberville's first four games. That brings his
sack total to 31 since the start of his sophomore year.
"Things are going pretty well," he said.
"I'm happy with the way I'm playing."
So are the college scouts. Ole Miss, LSU
and Tennessee continue to lead for his services with several other SEC teams
trying to crack his list of five.
"I really enjoyed going up to Tennessee,"
he said. "Even though the weather was so bad, I had a great time. The fans
and the stadium and the overall atmosphere was great. The final score
(Florida 30, Tennessee 13) was kind of shocking, though. I don't think
anyone there was expecting that."
Merrill said he's also planning visits to
Ole Miss, LSU and possibly Alabama for games later this fall.
"I'd probably say Ole Miss is on top right
now," he said. "Their coaching staff is the main reason. They're just great
people, people you can relate to, guys you'd really want to play for.
"But I'm going to keep looking at everyone
else. I'm taking a long look at just about everyone in the SEC because
that's the one thing I'm sure of, wanting to play in the SEC."
