Rivals100 defensive back Litchfield Ajavon released a top seven at the beginning of December and has kept a low profile since then. The Alexandria (Va.) Episcopal star took a few minutes to update where he stands with his top schools and explain his spring plans.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“I’m still at the same spot right now,” Ajavon said. “I feel as though (Notre Dame defensive coordinator) coach Lea and I have a very strong relationship. It has been like that for quite a while. At Michigan I had a really good relationship with coach Smith before he left but now coach Hamilton has stepped right in and we have a pretty good relationship. Coach Bates from Clemson and I are very tight as well. Coach Wiggins from Virginia Tech has been down here pretty much every weekend so we’re pretty close."

Notre Dame- “Coach Elko left and coach Lea took over,” he said. “They also brought in coach Joseph from North Carolina to coach the defensive backs. He stopped by here a couple times so that was good and everything seems OK over there. I didn’t really know coach Joseph prior to him getting to Notre Dame.”

Michigan- “Everything is good with Michigan,” said Ajavon. “A couple of weeks ago, coach Harbaugh stopped by with coach Brown and coach Pep Hamilton. We talk a lot on the phone. (Former Episcopal teammate) Luiji (Vilain) is still recruiting me for Michigan.”

Penn State- “I spoke to coach Franklin not too long ago,” he said. “He stopped by the school a few weeks ago. (Former Episcopal teammate) Jonathan (Sutherland) is really recruiting me a lot for them and I will be getting back to Penn State during my spring break.”

Wisconsin- “I have seen how they are recruiting in the 2019 class but I’m not basing my decision on how they are recruiting,” Ajavon said. “The relationship I have with the coaches is pretty normal. We talk occasionally and coach Chryst was here not too long ago with coach Turner.”

Clemson- “Communication with Clemson died off for a little while but it has picked up again,” he said. “It kind of died off during the stretch leading up to the 2018 class’s Signing Day and I’m guessing the same thing happened for everybody else. We are starting out fresh. I’ll probably get down there at some point.

Georgia- “Things have been good with them,” said Ajavon. “Coach Tucker and I talk a bit. He talks to my head coach also and we have a good relationship. Coach Beamer just left to go to Oklahoma. His whole agenda with me has changed and he’s working on me for Oklahoma.”

Virginia Tech- “It seemed like Virginia Tech was up here on campus every week,” he said. “They’ve been to a couple of my track meets and out relationship is steadily growing. It is progressing. After my spring break I will get down there again.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

“I should make it to Notre Dame for their spring game,” Ajavon said. “I’ll also stop by Michigan as well and take trips to Wisconsin and Penn State. All of that will be during my spring break (March 3rd-19th). I’m going to take one official visit. It’ll be to the school I commit to and it’ll be during the fall.

“My decision time isn’t too far from now, I hope,” he said. “The latest I’ll commit is May 25th. I could commit before then but I want to get it done by then because my exams start after that.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

Notre Dame has been hitting all the right buttons with Ajavon for a long time and, unless something changes, it’s hard to see him ending up anywhere else. Michigan, Penn State, and Virginia Tech seem to be in that next tier and it is clear the Hokies have some momentum. Wisconsin, Clemson, and Georgia have some time to make up ground and keep an eye on Oklahoma because of his relationship with Shane Beamer.

Outside of Ajavon’s visits during his spring break, it will be tough for him to take a ton of visits. He is one of the best track athletes in Virginia and specializes in the 55-meter hurdles. He ran recorded a 7.86 earlier this month and is trying to break the school record of 7.74 this season.
