HIALEAH, Fla. – Akeem Dent was committed to Florida State well before Willie Taggart took over as the program’s head coach. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in changing his status, either. He’ll take the normal look around and likely visit other campuses.

Right now, however, he has just one trip in mind. And as soon as the FSU’s new head coach makes contact, he plans to iron out the details.

“I’m planning on visiting Florida State,” Dent said. “I haven’t heard from Coach Taggart yet, though. So when I do, maybe I’ll get that set up.”

Dent isn’t worried about the lack of contact between he and the new FSU coach. He says so in as many words. The four-star defensive back knows things in Tallahassee are hectic at the moment and his opinion of Taggart is positive even if it lacks depth or basis.

“I think he’s a good person and I think they’re going to have a good season,” Dent said.

According to Dent, coaches from Alabama dropped by his school when the contact period opened but no extended conversation with the Tide reps took place. In fact, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Central standout doesn’t seem to interested in discussing other school from which he already holds offers.

He’d rather talk about the Seminoles or the programs he hopes get involved in his recruitment down the road.

“I want to get offers from USC and UCLA,” Dent said. “They make contact a little bit, but no offer. I still hear from Miami very often too.”

Dent, who was once committed to the Hurricanes, says he may or may not consider UM going forward.

A four-star prospect, Dent is currently ranked as the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 19 overall prospect in the class of 2019.
