Rivals100 CB picks up big offer

Scholarship offers are nothing new for Rivals100 cornerback Branden Smith. The four-star prospect has had a busy Spring of visiting college coaches all eager for his signature come February. However when the defending National Champions offered on Monday, Smith took notice.
"LSU offered me," Smith said. "It just came in the mail today. I've talked to them before. I was very excited about it. I had wanted LSU to offer so I was excited. I was waiting on that one."

Why was Smith so ready for an offer from the Tigers?
"They won a national championship. It is a very good school They've just got a good coaching staff and it's a good program."
The offer came following a visit from the Tiger coaching staff to Smith's Spring Practice.
"They came by practice, looked at me practice, looked at my film and were very impressed by it," he said.
Smith said that LSU is definitely a school that sticks out to date among his nearly 15 offers. It joins recent offers from Illinois, Maryland and NC State on a list that already includes heavy hitters such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Notre Dame. However, Smith is very much "wide open".
"I'm not going to do anymore camps," he said. "I'm going to take some visits but as of right now, I don't know what teams I'm going to see. Right now I'm just trying to get to know the coaches. I just want the coaches to just tell me the truth and keep it real."
With no plans of narrowing his list in the near future, Smith is targeting the middle of his senior season as a point that he hopes to limit things among his many interested programs.
Two schools that Smith thinks could be next in the long line of offers are Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Currently though, Smith is focused on his team and getting it done on the field.
"Everything's going real good," he said. "I'm getting to know my teammates a little more and just having fun and getting ready to win."
