Rivals100 2025 CB Devin Sanchez discusses No. 14 ranking in initial top 100
GALENA PARK, Texas — Galena Park (Texas) North Shore four-star cornerback Devin Sanchez landed at the No. 14 overall position in the initial 2025 Rivals100 that was released on Wednesday, which was good enough to be the No. 2 overall prospect from the state of Texas.
For Sanchez, it's a motivator to continue moving up and to cement his spot as one of the top national recruits in the class of 2025.
"That's cool," Sanchez said about the ranking. "In the country, that's good. Two in the state, that's big but I'm trying to get to that No. 1 spot."
Sanchez has the makings of a top recruit early on in his high school career, and it's paired with a program at North Shore that will be able to develop him into a college-ready prospect amid deep playoff runs, which is Sanchez's focus after he notched his first high school start on Friday.
"It was just like how it's been the last two weeks, nothing too special," he said. "Coming on the field as a starter the first time, I had a little bit in me but once that first play was over, I was like 'this ain't nothing.' No catches tonight, I did my thing."
Alabama, Oklahoma, Houston and Texas are programs that have been standing out early on for Sanchez as each have offered and maintained communication.
At Oklahoma, cornerbacks coach Jay Valai has built possibly the strongest relationship in his recruitment.
"Coach Valai, that's my guy right there," he said. "When I went down there, I felt something different with Coach Valai. Just the connection on the field, being able to work with him and him coaching me, I liked it. I like a coach that coaches hard and still loves you."
The feelings are similar at Alabama with cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson.
"Same with Coach T-Rob, same as Coach Valai," he said. "Both of those DB coaches are good. Coach T-Rob jokes with you off the field but on the field, he's hard and makes you get to the money. He's gonna stay on you and wants you to do good."
Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph has been solid with early communication as well for the Longhorns.
"Same thing with Coach Joseph," he said. "They're not gonna let off the pedal."
As for game visits in 2022, Sanchez will be busy seeing some of the programs recruiting him the hardest.
"Hitting up a lot of games. Oklahoma, I'll be at Red River when they play Texas," he said. "When they play Baylor at home, I'll be in Norman. Alabama, I'll probably hit up the Iron Bowl. Houston, I'll be at the Rice game. Texas, I gotta figure out a couple games."
At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Sanchez is ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect in the country for the class of 2025, according to Rivals.
