Rivals/VTO Pa.: Top story lines

There are many intriguing story lines when it comes to the Rivals.com/VTO Sports Pennsylvania Elite 100 on Sunday at Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa., including scouting wide receiver Tyler Boyd to see how he stacks up. Here's a look at a few of the things Rivals.com will be watching.

1. Boyd better than Foster?

OK, that might be a bit of a stretch saying that Tyler Boyd is a better prospect than Robert Foster, who is ranked as one of the nation's top 30 prospects. However, there are at least two well-respected coaches in the area that say Boyd is a better player now and could have more upside. We will see if he's the four-star talent that Pittsburgh, Penn State, Notre Dame and others think.

2. Is Switzer a four-star?

Ryan Switzer puts up amazing testing numbers at combines and his film is very good. However, he plays against less-than-stellar competition in West Virginia and he plays running back but projects as a slot receiver. Neither of these things is his fault and it's admirable and impressive that he's taking time out of his schedule despite being committed to North Carolina to show us that we have him undervalued in our rankings. The kid is a competitor and we expect to see some great things from him Sunday.

3. Gateway's good ones

We all know some of the Gateway players will end up as BCS prospects, the question is which ones? Offensive tackle R.J. Hughes has good size and could be the leading candidate. Quarterback Thomas Woodson is a player we've been hearing about since he was a freshman and the same can be said for Darin Franklin. There will also be some 2014 Gateway prospects that could be stars of the future. It would not be a surprise to find out that some of these players already have offers we are not aware of upon registration.

4. How good is Munger?

Donovan Munger from Shaker Heights has some very impressive offers and he is ranked as the No. 25 defensive tackle in the country, just a few slots from four-star status. Will this camp push him past some others in our next round of rankings? There will be a few good offensive linemen to go against so he will be challenged.

5. Scouting 2014 for the area

We know there's good talent in Western Pa., and Eastern Ohio every year but the prospects always seem to emerge a bit later, at least on our radar, than in other areas. Hopefully this camp will change that as we get a chance to see some talented top prospects from the sophomore class and get an early look at how next year stacks up.
