Every year before their seasons kick off, Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's

scrimmages Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute Charter School. Featuring two of
the most talented programs in the Mid-Atlantic, this is a must-see event as the
teams get ready for the upcoming campaign. Recent alumni include 2013 four-star
and South Carolina running back David Williams, Penn State defensive back and 2015 Rivals250 prospect John Reid and
2015 four-star and Maryland wide receiver D.J. Moore.
I was impressed with...
Whether it's because of the quarterback play or the absence of another receiving
threat, Rivals100 tight end Naseir Upshur is going to have a hard time
getting the ball a ton this year. He had a few catches on offense but his best
play came as a defensive end when he sniffed out a screen pass and intercepted
the pass with one hand. It was good to see him still be able to affect the game
in some capacity.
Running back D'Andre Swift is one of the best in the 2017 class and it
looks like he will continue to prove that this season. He is up to 207-pounds
and has clearly been working on his ability to run between the tackles and find
tough holes. Look for a big year out of Swift.
I was surprised by...
Imhotep has another star in the making in Isheem Young. The 2018
prospect starts at safety and already has an offer from Wisconsin but
he proved that he could have a future as a running back as well. Just entering
his sophomore year, Young was very aggressive on defensive and showed off his
extra gear when he had the ball in his hands.
Johncarlo Valentin is a four-star guard but it looks like he will play
at left tackle this season. St. Joe's Prep has a pretty good defensive line and
Valentin handled himself pretty well on the outside. His athleticism was a bit
of a surprise and he did a good job of controlling the agile defensive ends.

commit Tyliek Raynor didn't play on Saturday but the rest of the Imhotep
running backs did a good job of picking up the slack. There are multiple players
that can carry the rock for them this season, each with their own running style
that will keep the defense off balance.
After
2017 Rivals250 offensive lineman Carter Lynch sends out his film from
his first few games this season the offers should start rolling in. Last year he
was stuck playing behind an established upperclassmen but Lynch will be a
cornerstone of St. Joe's Prep's offensive line this year.
Defensive
back Benny Walls will make some team very happy at the next level. He
is a solid football player with good instincts.
There
is no doubt that Shaka Toney has a high ceiling. That's why Penn State took his commitment. Will he play linebacker or defensive end at the
next level? Toney is used to playing defensive end but is converting to
linebacker. There is still work to be done physically and mentally before he
will be a productive linebacker.
