Rivals Recap: South Georgia

Some of the best players to ever come out of the state of Georgia are from south of Macon so a season in the Peach State isn't complete without a trip down I-75 to check out the talent. Thursday night's matchup featured Americus-Sumter (Ga.) vs. Albany (Ga.) Westover, a game Westover won handily 26-7. Friday's game was a battle of undefeated teams, with Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County falling to defending Class 6A state champion Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County 54-17. With several future FBS players, including Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas commits, there's plenty to break down after the two games.

I was impressed with...
One of my favorite players to watch in the Class of 2016 is Colquitt County wide receiver Kiel Pollard. He had another big game, catching a touchdown pass and also running one in from the wildcat formation. Pollard doesn't wow with his speed, but his size, hands and difficulty to tackle make him a nightmare matchup for most defensive backs.

Class of 2017 Rivals100 defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon looks like the real deal and was very impressive in Friday's game, even though his team took the loss. Solomon is a legit 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds with very little bad weight, and he was in the backfield all night. Ultimately, Colquitt's no-huddle offense seemed to wear him down as the night went along, but his conditioning should only improve as his career moves along. Solomon, who favors Georgia, Florida and Auburn early on in his recruitment, will be one of the most sought-after defensive linemen in his class.
I was surprised by...
Class of 2016 Rivals250 defensive tackle Tyler Clark did a nice job off the ball quickly and getting into the backfield for Americus-Sumter, but the Georgia commit didn't do a very good job finishing plays. Clark lit up the camp circuit this offseason with his pass rushing moves, but in order to become a more complete prospect he will have to improve his motor and desire to finish off plays.

Replacing Class of 2015 five-star defensive tackle Trenton Thompson is no easy task, but Class of 2017 Westover's William Green is off to a pretty good start. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound prospect isn't on the recruiting radar yet, but with terrific size and nice athleticism, it shouldn't be long before coaches find their way back to Albany.

Unfortunately he struggled on some short and intermediate routes and looks like will need some time before he's ready to get on the field with the Herd once he arrives in Huntington.
A bizarre scene broke out late in the third quarter of the Lee County-Colquitt County game, which was played at Lee County, when one of the members of the chain gang got into an altercation with Colquitt assistant coach Shaun Sutton. Colquitt's up-tempo offense kept the chains moving, but not fast enough for their liking. After shoves and punches were exchanged, the game was delayed 15 minutes while sheriff's deputies and officials sorted out the situation.
