I was impressed with...

Trevon Grimes

The wide receiver group at the camp was loaded as usual, with a trio of prospects standing out. Ultimately five-star Trevon Grimes edged out Rivals100 prospects Jerry Jeudy for MVP honors, but the duo was both rewarded with Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge invites for their efforts. The two dueled during the 7-on-7 season, so it was no surprised to see them have a good day, but with a loaded group of defensive backs it was impressive to see just how much success the pair had.

I was surprised by...

Rivals250 wide receiver Mike Harley, Jr. participated in the Rivals Camp Series stop in Orlando on Saturday and earned an invite the illSpeed finals in Baltimore with his showing in that event. Despite traveling on Orlando on Saturday, Harley turned around and showed up in Miami and didn’t skip a beat. He was lightning fast and had his way during one-on-ones and was rewarded with a trip to the Five-Star Challenge for his efforts.

Linebacker MVP honors went to Class of 2018 Fort Pierce, Fla. athlete David Reese, who outshined several other top 2017 prospects, including Rivals100 LB Vandarius Cowan. Reese is tall and long and moves very well in space, a combination that makes him look like he might be an elite-level recruit in the future. Reese has early offers from Mississippi State and Louisville.

Other observations...

Jake Allen
Jake Allen ()

Rivals250 quarterback and Florida commit Jake Allen earned MVP honors after turning in a very good day both in drills and in one-on-ones. Allen is recovering from an injury he suffered during the fall, but looked 100 percent on Sunday while hooking up with Grimes several times during one-on-ones. The future Gators' quarterback also continues to add size, measuring 6-foot-3 and 204 pounds.

The class of 2018 is loaded at defensive back in South Florida and the talent group was on full display on Sunday. A pair of legacies battled for the MVP award all day long, before Al Blades, Jr. narrowly edged out Asante Samuel, Jr. for the honors. However, both players impressed enough to earn invites to the Five-Star Challenge, a rare honor for underclassmen prospects.

Class of 2017 Rivals250 offensive lineman Kai-Leon Herbert walked away with the double-dip of offensive line MVP and Five-Star Challenge invitation. Herbert’s combination of size and ability to move his feet made him tough for defenders to get by and he was far and away the most impressive lineman at the event, regardless of position.

Defensive line MVP honors went to three-star Miami (Fla.) Central defensive end Owen Carney, while running back MVP honors went to 2018 Carol City, Fla. prospect Camron Davis. The duo came into the event a little under the radar, but both appear to have bright futures.
