Rivals Recap: Northern Chicago

Kmet recorded just two receptions for 20 yards, but it was what he did when the ball was not thrown his way that opened eyes. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Notre Dame commit is ideally sized and has the athleticism and ball skills that fit the flex tight end role, but he proved to be a dominant blocker whether flexed out or in tight to the line. Kmet's quarterback underthrew and overthrew him on several occasions, but the junior caught both passes he should have and proved to have a well-rounded game.

DE
Daniel Joseph
Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Joseph does it all for Lake Forest Academy from kicking off and punting to playing tight end and his expected future position of defensive end. To say Joseph was playing defensive end on Saturday afternoon, though, is a bit of stretch. He tried putting his hand in the ground for several plays before announcing to his coach that he would be more effective in a two-point stance. From there he played more of an outside linebacker role. The Penn State commit has outstanding tools, but needs a lot of refinement to his game.

RB
Rondel Jamison (2017)
Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Jamison rushed for 190 yards on the night, including touchdown runs of 61, 48 and 13 yards, accounting for all of the Corsair's touchdowns in the win over St. Viator. Jamison does not hold down the top spot on this list, though, because he put the ball on the ground on back-to-back possessions early in the second half. There is not a wow aspect to Jamison's game, but the three-star is a steady ball carrier who showed good balance and the ability to break the long-gainer.

WR
Eric Rooks (2017)
Chicago (Ill.) De La Salle
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Rooks has the prototypical frame of a Division I wide receiver recruit. Saturday was an up and down game for Rooks, though. We saw the ability to physically outmatch defensive backs for jump balls in the end zone. He also showed himself to be a big target over the middle that has some run-after-catch ability. We also saw Rooks drop a few passes that should have been caught. Once he learns how to attack the football instead of waiting for it to fall into his arms, the three-star junior could emerge as a major prospect.

Newcomer to know
Sophomore defensive back Zaire Barnes teamed with his brother, Zavier, to record three of Carmel Catholic's four interceptions in Friday's win over St. Viator. The 6-foot-2, 182-pound Barnes was all over the field, registering tackles for loss, a key pass break-up at the end of the first half and his interception. With plenty of size and obvious playmaking ability, Barnes is a name to know in that 2018 class.
