Rivals Recap: Next Level Athlete Dallas

HURST, Texas – Several top prospects from the Dallas area gathered to compete at the Next Level Athlete Showcase at L.D. Bell High School on Sunday. Some new faces emerged and some big time playmakers showed why they are considered big time prospects.

I was impressed with…

The receiver group was probably the deepest group with Rivals250 receivers Omar Manning and Charleston Rambo leading the pack. Both had targets on their backs and both came through with impressive performances. Manning immediately draws attention. His 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame is hard to miss. He has room to add more weight and the quick feet and athleticism to stick at the receiver position. Rambo has a more slender build at 6-foot-2 and 170-pounds, but he can change direction in a hurry and makes subtle adjustments to the ball while maintaining his speed and position. Both showed why they are among the most highly recruited prospects in the 2017 class.

Mansfield (Texas) three-star Paulson Adebo had a very strong day on both sides of the football. He spent time at cornerback and receiver on Sunday, and he was able to make big plays on both sides of the ball during the one-on-one period. He has great length and whether he is on offense or defense he likes to get physical. His quick feet allow him to change direction in a hurry and he attacks the ball.

Cedar Hill (Texas) receiver Camron Buckley has added some weight to his frame, and he continues to impress with his intensity. He brings a lot of flare to the receiver spot and he is certainly not lacking confidence. He backs up his swagger with his performance and he showed his strong route running ability as well as his reliable hands.

I was surprised by

Grant Polley
Grant Polley ()

Denton (Texas) offensive lineman Grant Polley stands a solid 6-foot-4 and around 260-pounds, and he moves really well. His tape shows a nasty streak but he seems a little on the small side. That is not the case, and it will surprise me if his offer list does not continue to grow this spring. He passes the eyeball test, he has good flexibility, and he has quick feet, which will catch the attention of college coaches. Kansas was the first to extend an offer.

I was not surprised by the performance of Colleyville (Texas) Heritage quarterback Cam Roane, but I am surprised he has not received more attention. He had a strong day on Sunday and earned quarterback MVP honors. He stands tall in the pocket and the ball jumps off his hand. He has a quick throwing motion and threw with accuracy. Grambling is his only offer, but Oklahoma State is coming on strong and more interest is on the way.

Denton (Texas) Ryan defensive end Earnest Brown is easy to spot at 6-foot-5, 235-pounds, and he already holds offers Texas State, Iowa, Tulsa, Colorado State, Indiana, and SMU. He plays inside at Ryan, but he held his own on the outside during camp. His size allows him to set the edge and he plays with strong leverage and technique.

Other Notes

Omar Manning received several scholarship offers in the fall, but three schools have caught his attention early in the process. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and UCLA have each caught his attention and he plans to attend Junior Days at Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and TCU. He is looking at possibly making a decision in the spring.

Paulson Adebo plans to attend the Oklahoma State Junior Day next weekend and he would like to take several visits. He is a standout on both sides of the ball and right now he does not have a preference. Academics are a big factor for him and Duke is one offer which has caught his attention.
