Rivals Recap: Liberty County vs. Thomson County

Two of the best underclassmen in the state of Georgia faced off on Friday night

as class of 2017 Rivals100 defensive back Richard LeCounte and his
Liberty County team hosted class of 2018 defensive back Christian Tutt
and his Thomson County squad in a key region game. Tutt, who already has offers
from Georgia, Florida State has several others, helped his
team come away with a 42-20 victory.
I was impressed with...
Liberty County's Jacquez Williams is committed to Wake Forest
as a linebacker but the versatile athlete but on quite a show at linebacker on
Friday night. He scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 93-yard run in the
second half. Williams also played on defense at safety and I think he's a nice
pick up for the Demon Deacons from an under recruited part of the state.
I was surprised by...
LeCounte is being recruited by most schools as a safety or corner, but he did
most of his damage on Friday night on offense. All of the Liberty County
touchdowns came with LeCounte at quarterback, including a short touchdown run on
a zone read. He also had a 50-yard kickoff return and was so excellent as a
return man that Thomson avoided kicking to him for the rest of the night.
LeCounte's future is on defense but his ability as a return man is a nice bonus
for whichever school lands him.
Georgia Southern commit Martial Washington is one of the hardest
hitters I've seen this season and he laid a few big ones on the Thomson County
ball carriers on Friday. Washington likes the idea of staying close to home, but
it wouldn't be surprising to see a few bigger programs come in with late offers
to give him something to think about.
Other notes...
Tutt
played only defense for Thomson and made a few plays, but Liberty's run-heavy
attack didn't give him many opportunities to make plays in coverage. Tutt's size
and speed make him a major target for several schools, and despite the turmoil
at USC he said after the game that the Trojans are still very much in
the mix for his services. Tutt is only a sophomore, but will make his third
visit to USC later this fall.
Class
of 2017 Liberty County defensive back Tracy White didn't see many
opportunities in the pass game either, but continues to have the look of a Power
Five prospect. The 6-foot-1 corner has excellent size and if he can play with
more aggression when it comes to helping against the run, he could end up with a
double-digit offers.
LeCounte
spent the game wearing a pair of Georgia Bulldogs gloves, but also left for
Columbus immediately following the game to visit Ohio State. It's been a race
between the Buckeyes and Bulldogs for LeCounte pretty much from Day 1, so expect
that to continue. LeCounte said he plans on announcing a decision in December.
