Rivals recap: Erasmus Hall at Lincoln

BROOKLYN -- In a rivalry game that dates back to the 1930's, Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln beat the visiting Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall 24-14. Over the years both teams have had their fair share of players go on to play football at big time colleges. Erasmus Hall had all the momentum early in the game but Lincoln went on a big run and came away with a big win.

I was impressed with...
The front seven for Erasmus Hall played very well early in the game but started to wear down in the middle of the second quarter. Lincoln was determined to run the ball and as the game progressed the two and three yard runs turned into seven, eight and nine yard bursts. Most of Lincoln's starters on both sides of the ball don't have much experience but the way they battled, especially on offense, was worth noting.

Erasmus Hall has historically churned out big time players at the skill positions but their next big star is 2018 lineman Matthew Jones. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound sophomore is listed as a defensive lineman but played at left tackle and only a few series on defense. Despite his limited experience at the position, Jones excelled on his quarterback's blind side. Who knows how good he could get if he sticks with offense.
I was surprised by...
Erasmus Hall has a plethora of talent at wide receiver and running back but somehow they only managed 14 points. Receivers could get open and running backs had great speed but the Lincoln defense seemed to come up big in big moments. People that have followed Erasmus Hall know that coach Danny Landberg and his staff will get the team on the right track and when they do, Erasmus Hall could put up close to 50 points a game.
Lincoln's top college prospect is 2017 defensive lineman Romello Martin. At about 6-foot-4, 285-pounds, Martin is an immovable object so the Lincoln coaches slotted Martin at nose tackle where his job is to take on two and sometimes three offensive lineman. His stat line may look a little barren but he did his job. At the next level Martin will play as a three or five technique defensive tackle, freeing him up from those double teams to beat his man and make a play on the ball carrier. While it is disappointing Martin didn't fill up the stat sheet, it is important to know that he did his job.
Temple commit Jahsen WintClick Lincoln's defensive line really took over towards the end of the game and junior defensive end Jeavon LesseyClick Erasmus Hall is known for their athletes and Sean RyanClick Other thoughts...Here to view this Link. has a chance to be a special one. The sophomore wide receiver has great speed and a large catch radius. Ryan was very competitive and did a good job of creating space and using his hands to catch the ball, not his body. If Ryan can continue to improve, we could be looking at a Power Five college football player in a few years. Here to view this Link. had a lot to do with it. He has great power in his lower body and he was able to chase down a lot of plays that went to the opposite side of the field. Based on his play and physical skills, there is no reason why Lessey shouldn't be getting looks from some college football programs. Here to view this Link. is a quality player whose best games are ahead of him. There is a lot the Erasmus Hall stand out can do on the field and, with his 6-foot, 185-pound frame, Wint could help the Owls in a few positions.
