Rivals Recap: Elbert County vs. Morgan County

ELBERTON, Ga. -- Five-star athlete

Mecole Hardman Jr. does a
little bit of everything for his Elberton (Ga.) Elbert County high school
program and his talents were on full display in his team's 28-7 victory over
visiting Madison (Ga.) Morgan County on Friday. The visiting Morgan County team
was without four-star 2017 prospect MJ Webb, but hung tough for most of the
game before Hardman and company were just too much to handle.
I was impressed with...
It's hard not to watch Hardman and be impressed with his play, but to watch him
lead his team from the quarterback position was very impressive. The way he sees
holes develop and his ability to cut on the fly without losing speed is among
the best in the county. Several schools, including Alabama, continue to
recruit Hardman as a defensive back, but to me he is just so special on offense
it's hard to imagine a scenario where he doesn't get the ball in his hands at
the next level.

I was surprised by...
Webb may have been out, but 2018 linebacker/defensive end Quin Williams, who
looks the part of a major FBS prospect, led Morgan County's defense. Every time
it looked as if Hardman was going to cut back and be off to the races, Williams
came in from across the field to make a big hit. At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds and
just a high school sophomore, Williams will have his share of offers before it's
all said and done.
Other notes...
Many
people assume Hardman is bound for Georgia or Tennessee, but he made it
clear after the game that he's still considering several options, including
Alabama. Hardman will visit Tuscaloosa for the LSU game and say he may end up
making the trip an official visit if he can work it out schedule-wise. Either
way, he said the Tide are now on his list for an official visit, along with
Michigan and Ole Miss. He also reiterated that he won't take an official
visit to Knoxville or Athens because of proximity and said that TCU and
Oregon are the other schools he's seriously considering for his final two
official visits.
Georgia
State running back commit Tra Barnett had a huge game playing alongside Hardman
in the Elbert County backfield and finished the game off with a pick-six as time
expired. The Panthers were the only school to offer the speedy Barnett and they
look as if they landed a quality player.
Webb
was out with injury, but that didn't stop him from shedding some light on his
recruitment. He said several programs continue to recruit him, but Ohio State
has made it clear to him that he's a major priority in the 2017 class. Webb has
only taken one college visit this fall, and that was to nearby Georgia, but he
said Columbus is on his list for sometime this fall.
