VIDEO: Corley interview

DETROIT - One of the most anticipated matchups of the 2015 high school football season took place Saturday in Detroit where Public School League rivals Cass Tech and Martin Luther King squared off. The game was everything advertised, with King edging Cass Tech 31-28 in overtime.
I was impressed with …
Starting with the marquee names, four-star wide receiver Donnie Corley delivered once again. Offensively he caught four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. He also drew several big pass interference calls. Maybe most impressive, though, was what he did defensively, double-digit tackles and an interception. The 6-foot-2, 187-pounder plays with a surprising level of physicality. His peel-back block on a teammate's run drew one of the biggest "oohs" from the crowd on the day.

The 5-foot-9, 202-pound back took his first carry of the game 56 yards. He would finish with 19 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown. Almost all of Pettaway's yards came between the tackles. He hits the hole hard, runs with great pad level and was always falling forward.

One of the bright spots for Cass Tech was the play of four-star safety Demetric VanceClick Here to view this Link.. The highlight play from Vance was dropping down to Man Coverage on Corley and undercutting his post route to intercept a pass deep in his team's territory. The staple of Vance's game is the big hit, though. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound Michigan StateClick Here to view this Link. commit tees off on opposing ball carriers and leveled some devastating tackles. He should be able to fill the strong safety or STAR linebacker role for the Spartans next year.

The No. 19 cornerback prospect in the 2017 class, Johnson started to get carries in the second quarter and immediately made a difference, going 43 yards for a touchdown on his first carry. Both Cass Tech and King have been consistent producers of talent for many years and they have college coaches through their school regularly. That makes it all the more remarkable that both teams have players who are vastly under-recruited. The most obvious here is three-star athlete Armani PoseyClick I was surprised with … Here to view this Link., who started at both quarterback and safety for Detroit King on Saturday. Peoples-Jones did break out for a 56-yard reception in the second half, but that was his only catch of the day. Johnson earned his stars through his play this off-season, and after seeing him again Saturday I am very comfortable with Johnson's rating. Johnson is blazing fast and has outstanding instincts for the position.
