Rivals Recap: Corona Centennial-Chaminade

CORONA, Calif. - Corona Centennial has one of the best offenses (and teams) in the country and the Huskies showed it all off on Friday night in a 70-29 victory over West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade in the first round of the playoffs.

Arizona commit J.J. Taylor is tiny at 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds but he is a blast to watch and nearly impossible to slow down coming out of the backfield.
The three-star running back scored seven touchdowns (five in the first half) and he showed off speed, the ability to escape from tacklers and what's best about him - the talent to hide behind blockers and then explode through the hole for big gains.
Taylor scored on runs of 1, 1, 2, 60, 1, 19 and 4 yards, and he added other impressive runs throughout the night. The Centennial standout can sneak through the tightest of spots and once he's in the open field nobody is catching him.
In Arizona's wide-open offense, Taylor could provide a real spark of speed and versatility and he could be special even without great size.
Speaking of running backs, 2018 recruit T.J. PledgerClick #Arizona commit J.J. Taylor has three rushing touchdowns - with 6:48 left in the first quarter. 21-0 Corona Centennial @MattGOAZCATS- Adam Gorney (@adamgorney) November 14, 2015Here to view this Link. from West Hills Chaminade is already a national recruit and could pick up even more major offers this offseason.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound sophomore was bottled up more often than usual against Centennial's defense but he broke free numerous times and fought for extra yards.
Pledger, who already has offers from Cal, Georgia, USC and Washington, scored early on a 3-yard TD run and later broke free for a 78-yard score. On the season, the 2018 prospect has rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 26 touchdowns.
I was surprised by…
Three-star Desmond Williams does not get a lot of publicity in Corona Centennial's defense, at least not as much as some others, but he had an excellent showing in the win Friday night.
Williams, a Boise State pledge who will most likely play outside linebacker in college, is a hard hitter, is aggressive and really goes after big tackles. The three-star had his nicest play late in the first half. With Chaminade driving, Williams came out of nowhere for a big hit on QB Dymond Lee, a UCLA commit, to send it to halftime.
Other thoughts…
Four-star receiver Javon McKinleyClick Lee is experimenting with playing quarterback but he's such a phenomenal athlete and such a talented receiver that's where the Bruins should utilize him. The four-star threw three interceptions in the loss although Lee was definitely not the reason why Chaminade lost the game. But Lee could be a special player at receiver and that's where he should really focus to get on the field early in Westwood. Here to view this Link. did not have a big game for Centennial, which really utilized its running attack, but he's still one of the best receivers in the state. It's still too early to tell, though, and McKinley isn't giving away much.
