Rivals Recap: Chandler at Bishop Gorman

LAS VEGAS -- The best Arizona has to offer traveled north to face the best Nevada has to offer in a mega matchup Saturday night at Fertitta Field. Defending national champion Bishop Gorman emerged with a 35-14 victory against Chandler, using a crucial stop early in the fourth quarter before pulling away.

I was impressed with...
N'Keal Harry overpowered cornerbacks on the edge and made some terrific catches in traffic, showing strong hands and great body control in tight spaces. The five-star wide receiver from Chandler didn't exactly stretch the field, but he's so imposing that he doesn't have to run routes beyond 25 yards to be productive. Chandler head coach Shaun Aguano said Harry gained good weight this summer and that has made him a load for defenders. At one point Saturday, it seemed like Gorman needed half its defense to bring him down after a catch up the middle.
Four-star quarterback Tate Martell, the No. 1-rated dual-threat prospect in the 2017 class, took the field for the first time since committing to Texas A&M earlier this month. He didn't appear fazed by the added attention and national television audience, feeling pressure in the pocket and, as we've seen him do many times, rolling out while keeping his eyes down field on targets. And when there was nothing there, Martell wasn't afraid to tuck the ball and run. He also showed a great feel for the zone read and made some outstanding throws on the run, using his lower body to build momentum toward his target.
I was surprised by...
The speed of 2017 running back Biaggio Ali-Walsh, the grandson of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, definitely jumped out. Ali-Walsh, who holds early offers from Louisville and UNLV, was the backup at Gorman last season but he should be the feature of an explosive offense this fall given his quick burst and ability to make cuts between the tackles. The three-star prospect rushed for 104 yards on 15 carries and added 66 receiving yards.
