Rivals Recap: Arizona

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Despite missing the state's top-rated prospect, defending champion Chandler edged crosstown rival Hamilton in the most anticipated matchup of the regular season Friday night. We take a look at that and more from a two-day swing in Arizona that also featured an overtime thriller between Basha and Brophy Prep.

Mason Moran, the three-star dual-threat quarterback committed to Oregon State, totaled nearly 400 yards of offense in leading Chandler to a comeback victory without the services of five-star wide receiver N'Keal Harry, who was sidelined with a high ankle sprain.
Moran, a former safety who was stuck behind Arizona State's Bryce Perkins on the depth chart last year, utilized all of his options and proved once again to be more than capable as a passer and runner. He had a rushing score on the opening drive and went back to that formula to end it, capping the 27-20 win with a late conversion and showing a knack for knowing when to take off with the ball.
Four-star quarterback Ryan Kelley was stellar in a losing effort against Brophy Prep, passing for three touchdowns and running for another. He made quick decisions and got the football out fast, hitting receivers in stride and buying time in the pocket. Arizona State, Oregon and UCLA are considered the frontrunners and the 2017 prospect told Rivals.com he could announce a commitment any day now.
I was surprised with ...
Chandler running back T.J. Green tacked on three rushing touchdowns to put a bow on what has been an impressive regular season. The 2017 prospect saw an increase in workload after four-star athlete Chase Lucas went down with a knee injury in the season opener and he more than capitalized. He hit running lanes with a purpose and showed the ability to make the first man miss.
