Rivals Reaction: Rivals250 WR Dylan Wright commits to A&M

Rivals250 wide receiver Dylan Wright created a stir on Monday night with his commitment to Texas A&M. His decision had essentially been narrowed down to the Aggies and Texas, but he had insisted that he was eyeing up an end-of-season announcement. After some soul-searching, Wright chose to move his commitment forward and joined an A&M class that is chasing Alabama as the top recruiting class in the country.

WHAT HIS COMMITMENT MEANS FOR A&M

Wright is one of the most physically dominant wide receivers in the country and gives the Aggies something at wide receiver that it didn’t already have with its prior commitments. He’s a true perimeter receiver that is always the favorite to win jump-balls and is as dangerous a red zone target as there is. Wright fought back this summer from a fairly significant foot injury to get back on the field to compete and his competitive nature is one of the most evident and appealing qualities about him. His athleticism paired with his catch radius make him an exciting prospect for the future as he continues to fine-tune his route running. As a former quarterback, his rise as one of the top wide receivers in the country has been all the more impressive considering the amount of time he’s played the position, but he’s so naturally gifted in so many ways, he likely would have been a top recruit at any number of positions he would have chose to play.

WHO IT HURTS

Texas is the clear team that missed out on Wright. After making his commitment, he said that Arkansas and Florida State were also among the teams jilted by his decision, but the Longhorns had to have been feeling good about their chances with him until he popped off his announcement. While Texas certainly would have loved to add a playmaker like Wright to its class, the Razorbacks - who are in more of a position of wanting to add more elite talent across the board - might be feel the sting a little more up front with another of its top wide receiver targets is now off the board.

OTHER IMPLICATIONS

A week after Jeffery Carter’s commitment strengthened the case of A&M having the best defensive back class in the country, the addition of Wright now makes for a very interesting conversation when it comes to its group of pass-catchers. With tight end Baylor Cupp also in the mix, head coach Jimbo Fisher has a slew of weapons in the passing game coming out of the 2019 class and Wright has all the tools to get reps very early on in his tenure in College Station. The chemistry within the class is evident as well, and Wright is another charismatic personality that should help hold the group together throughout the fall.
