Rivals Reaction: Five-star Grimes narrows list

Trevon Grimes
Trevon Grimes

Trevon Grimes is the No. 1 wide receiver in America. That title tends to come with a laundry list of scholarship offers. The load can get overwhelming, and it’s why the Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas prospect narrowed his list on Monday night.

The announcement came via Twitter.

While Grimes released a list of six schools (Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama and Georgia), the group can be handicapped further. Grimes’ real options are probably fewer than what he insist. Below is Rivals.com reaction to the receiver’s announcement.

The leader: Ohio State

The Buckeyes have been the frontrunner for Grimes since his recruitment began. The five-star prospect has never been shy about naming it as such, either. Grimes is originally from the Midwest and feels comfortable with the Buckeyes’ staff.

The other option: Florida

Grimes’ high school teammate, Jake Allen, is committed to Florida. Grimes has named the Gators as his second option in the past and has visited campus. Florida will need to have a good season if it hopes to steal Grimes away from Ohio State. That said, the in-state program has plenty working in its favor.

The darkhorse: Florida State

The Seminoles are in a solid third here, but probably shouldn’t be ruled out completely. FSU will likely make its case on the field this fall, and the fact that it is the in-state program on the most solid footing isn’t lost on Grimes. The Seminoles have a chance to make a move late.

The window dressing: Miami, Alabama and Georgia.

It’s hard to totally count Alabama out of anything given its standing as the national champion and a college football blue blood. That said, the Tide have some work to do here. Maybe not as much as Miami and Georgia, which stand little chance of actually landing Grimes' commitment, but the relatioships in place between the five-star prospect and the Alabama staff just simply aren’t as strong.
