The quarterback class in the 2021 recruiting cycle looks like it could be one of the best in recent years. The depth of quality passers is remarkable but there are two that have separated themselves from the pack early on. Oklahoma commit Brock Vandagriff and Caleb Williams have all the tools to play at a very level in college, but who should be the top ranked quarterback in the rankings? Recruiting analysts Chad Simmons and Adam Friedman lay out the arguments for both.

FRIEDMAN'S VIEW: Caleb Williams

It’s hard to find many holes in Williams’ game. He has everything coaches look for in a thrower: good mechanics, a strong arm, accuracy and the ability to throw on multiple planes. He also really showcased his legs more this season. What Williams can do when he tucks the ball and takes off down field will frustrate defenders and coaches to no end. On top of that, Williams is a student of the game and rarely makes bad decisions with the ball.

There are good players and then are good players that other good players want to play with, hang out with, and work harder for. That leadership quality and “it” factor separates Williams from other quarterbacks in this class.

SIMMONS' VIEW: Brock Vandagriff

Vandagriff missed about half the season due to a leg injury, but when he played, he showed why he is a five-star quarterback. In a game I attended against the best team he played all season in round two of the playoffs, he had over 600 yards of offense and eight touchdowns. He has a live arm, he is smart, he is more athletic than many realize and he is a natural leader. The Oklahoma commit is going to be a star on the next level. He not only has the ability, but he has the mental toughness you look for in an elite quarterback too.
