This week’s offers: Kentucky, Memphis

Status report: Carvin saw his recruiting week start with two offers and finish with the addition of his first SEC offer, plus one from an in-state school. With a number of other big programs lurking, mainly Alabama and Missouri, Carvin may be on the cusp of seeing his process blow up. Also with Carvin being yet another Hurricane Katrina relocation, he has ties to Louisiana and grew up as a fan of LSU, so if the Tigers get involved along the way they will likely play a major role in his recruiting process.

In his words: “It feels great to pick up the two offers. It just shows the work I put in pays off. I was surprised because the recruiting process for most guys doesn’t start till the end of their junior year and into their senior year.”

Visit plans: Carvin took a recent visit to Louisville and also camped at Alabama. While he mentioned that he will now focus on his upcoming junior season, he will try to make return visits to Kentucky and Louisville, plus take a closer look at Memphis since it is local to him.

This week’s offers: Tennessee, South Carolina, Tulane

Status report: With the additions of two major SEC offers in one afternoon, Brown suddenly became a recruit to keep a close eye on in the coming months. Look for both the Vols and Gamecocks to become major players for Brown, who also grew up as a fan of Tennessee, along with Alabama and Clemson. While he is still looking to wait until the end of his senior season to make a final decision, with new offers coming in it will be interesting to see if that actually happens. Also, with his options growing, getting Brown scheduled for an official visit soon will be vital for any school. Finally, Brown mentioned that Penn State and Pittsburgh are two schools that have recently been showing increased interest.

In his words: “My nickname is Primetime, so I compare myself to Deion Sanders. I’m electrifying and smart.”

Visit plans: Brown’s most recent visits were to South Carolina, North Carolina and Duke. Now he has begun to focus on scheduling official visits to Tennessee, South Carolina and West Virginia, even though none are currently finalized.

This week’s offers: Michigan State

Status report: Sometimes it isn’t the quantity of the offers that matter, but the quality. For Scott, the addition of an offer from Michigan State yesterday definitely threw his process upside down. After recently announcing a top three of Pittsburgh, Iowa and West Virginia, the Spartans are firmly in his top four and may have actually jumped to the lead. Growing up as a fan of Michigan State, as well as Arkansas, Scott has been hoping for an offer from the Spartans for quite some time, so now that it’s here, it will be interesting to see if he can turn them down. A decision was likely to happen before the end of July, but it is now possible to happen before that, which would likely put Michigan State in a great position. An additional offer from Kentucky is also possible, which spent a good portion of their 7-on-7 camp keeping a close eye on Scott.

In his words: “The Michigan State offer was huge because they were one of the first teams to recruit me and I have a great relationship with the coaches. My family loves the school and they develop defensive backs. The timing of the offer was a surprise. They told me July 25 they'll let me know, but it came today [Tuesday].”

Visit plans: Scott took a visit to Pittsburgh before the dead period and then attended a 7-on-7 camp with his team at Kentucky over the weekend. He does not have any specific plans for upcoming visits, but mentioned that he has recently been talking about it with his family with hopes of making a few decisions soon.
