When it comes to football and recruiting, few have more passion than fans in the Lone Star State. And that’s why Rivals.com can’t stop with just ranking a few players from top to bottom. So with that in mind, Rivals.com is proud to present its updated Texas Top 100.

One of the highest movers was defensive tackle Steven Coleman of Dallas Skyline.

The Oklahoma Sooners landed his commitment a few weeks back, much to the dismay of teams like Miami, Kansas State, Colorado, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Coleman moved up to the No. 18 spot in the top 100.

“He’s going to be a future star,” one Big 12 assistant coach said. “Oklahoma got themselves a heck of a prospect there. He has those long arms that you want in your linemen and a motor that doesn’t stop.”

Also making a very solid move up the rankings was Waco, Texas, athlete Robert Johnson. He’s labeled as an athlete because many teams first started to recruit him as a receiver prospect, but after leading his team to a perfect 10-0 record at quarterback, it’s clear that he has more than what it takes to be a special prospect as a dual-threat signal-caller.

Johnson moved up to a four-star prospect and is now ranked at No. 29 in the top 100. Johnson currently has a top three of Arkansas, Kansas State and Nebraska.

Both Coleman and Johnson did move up quite a bit, but the highest high riser was Dallas Lake Highlands defensive back Stephen Hodge.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder went from an intriguing prospect before the season to a surefire four-star, blue chip recruit with an impressive senior season. After picking off four passes in the first two games of his senior year, Hodge just skyrocketed up the charts after that and is now ranked as the state’s No. 34 player.

And now he’s the hottest commodity in the Lone Star State and he has the offers to prove it.

Texas A&M, Boston College, UCLA, Vanderbilt and West Virginia jumped on his offer list early on, but teams like Colorado and others have recently joined the fray.

There were a few newcomers to the list but the most notable addition was Longview, Texas, quarterback Joel Armstrong, who moved into the No. 68 spot.

If Hodge is the hottest target in the state, then Armstrong isn’t too far behind. He has helped Longview to an 8-3 record with his ability to ramble, scramble and fire the ball to open receivers.

He was also huge last Friday night in helping Longview beat Garland, the state’s No. 1 team, in the first round in the state playoffs. Oh yeah, he only had 170 yards passing in the first half.
