Rivals Camp Charlotte: Top underclassmen

With big names such as Elijah Hood and Will Grier from the class of 2014 on hand for the Charlotte stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour, plenty of attention was on the senior class. But that didn't stop a nice crop of underclassmen from performing well. Rivals.com Southeast analyst Woody Wommack breaks down the most impressive of the group.

RIVALS CAMP CHARLOTTE: TOP UNDERCLASSMEN

1. Christian Colon, DT, Charlotte (N.C.) Independence (2016)

Colon is a big, physical lineman who put in a couple of nice reps during one-on-ones. He's very raw, but he's strong as an ox and is a push-the-pocket type of defensive tackle. The biggest key for Colon will be to continue to develop physically and work on his technique so he can still dominate when other players his age catch up with his size and strength.

2. Freddie Phillips, WR, Pelion (S.C.) (2015)

Phillips is a tall, angular wide receiver who knows how to get open down the field. On Sunday, he flourished when going deep, making several big-play catches. He has a good frame, and the key for Phillips will be to add strength so he can be as effective getting off the line as he is when he goes deep.

3. T.J. Haney, OT, Gaffney (S.C)(2015)

Haney has the build and the size of an ideal tackle, and he has good footwork for a player of his age/size. He's at a stage in which coaching is going to be key. He has all the gifts, but good coaching could be the difference between having the chance to play in a BCS conference and not.

He doesn't exactly have the ideal height for a quarterback, but McCall flashed quite a bit of potential on Saturday. He has early offers from South CarolinaClick 4. Avery McCall, QB, Dillon (S.C.) He can also do damage running the ball, and he showed nice footwork during drills.

5. Robert Washington, RB, Huntersville (N.C.) Southlake Christian Academy (2016)

Because he is one of the only members of his class who has committed, many were looking to Washington to see how he would do on Sunday. He didn't disappoint, showing good size and speed and flashing nice hands in the receiving drills.

6. Savals Walker, WR, Bamberg (S.C.) Bambert-Ehrhardt (2017)

As a member of the class of 2017, Walker faced very few expectations coming in to Sunday's event. But he was clearly among the best of the underclassmen at any position. He looked great on most routes and didn't appear to make any glaring mental errors. It looks as if Walker could end up being a player to watch in South Carolina for years to come.
