Rivals adizero Combine: Cincinnati takeaways

CLASS OF 2020 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | State | Position | Team

RELATED: Predictions for the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The Rivals adizero Combine arrived in the Queen City and saw around 1,200 players run through testing. The group featured a few prospects who arrived already holding scholarship offers, including Cleveland Glenville running back Torrance Davis who is closing in on 20 total offers.

Davis already had an invitation to Sunday’s Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas, but wanted to earn his invite through the combine. He measured in at an impressive 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds and ran a solid 40-yard dash time. Earlier this month Davis listed a top five of Cincinnati, Kentucky, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Penn State. In between Saturday’s combine and Sunday’s camp, Davis made a college visit to the University of Cincinnati. It was his first recruiting visit to the school.

While Davis was the most heavily-recruited prospect to roll through Saturday’s combine, he was not the only one who earned an invitation back for Sunday’s camp. Ten more prospects out of Saturday’s combine will be joining him on the field Sunday.

The first invitation of the day went to Dinkins, a sophomore, who measured in at an impressive 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds. Dinkins is already on the board with his first scholarship offer, which came from in-state program Akron, and is generating early Power Five interest from the likes of Alabama and Michigan State. A two-year varsity starter at Walnut Ridge, Dinkins had impressive testing numbers including a 4.57 pro agility shuttle.

Tre Goodin

Goodin is a veteran of the Rivals adizero Combine, and this year his effort earned him an invitation back to Sunday’s camp. Times overall were slower than we have seen at previous combines this year, and Goodin’s 4.6 was one of the fastest recorded at the event. Western Michigan has already offered Goodin and he was impressed with what he saw from the Broncos after a spring practice visit last month. “It was a great place. The coaching staff is real nice. They treated me as if I was already committed there.” Goodin’s older brother is Xavier point guard Quentin Goodin.

Eli Matthews

The state of Kentucky was well-represented at Saturday’s combine and came out with several invitations for Sunday’s camp. Matthews was a prospect we had some familiarity with before the combine after a productive junior season that included 40 solo tackles and 12 tackles for loss. Offers have already come in from Kent State and VMI, and he has made a tour of several schools, including Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and Purdue. The most recent visit went to Ohio State, where defensive line coach Larry Johnson wants to see Matthews in the Buckeyes' camp this summer.

Robert Medalion

Medalion has the exact build college coaches are looking for in their offensive lineman. Just over 6-foot-4 and more than 280-pounds, Medalion has attracted earlier interest from Toledo, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He hasn't gotten a chance to take any visits yet but plans on going to Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Toledo along with camping at Ohio State and Cincinnati. Medalion doesn't have any offers yet but he grew up a fan of Michigan State because he has a lot of respect for Mark Dantonio.

Jake Sloan

One of the most productive pass catchers in Kentucky high school football history is headed back for Sunday’s Rivals 3 Stripe Camp after a strong showing at Saturday’s combine. Pulaski County’s Jake Sloan recorded 116 catches, 1,667 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. The 116 receptions for a season ranks second all-time in state history. Sloan’s size is one of his best assets, and he primarily works out of the slot in Pulaski County’s offense. Morehead State is Sloan’s first offer and he is hearing from a number of other FCS programs.

James Thompson

A leg injury prematurely ended Thompson’s junior season, and may have also delayed his recruitment. The Cincinnati-area prospect has received interest from the likes of Akron, Purdue, Toledo and Bowling Green, while Tennessee coaches were through his school this past week. Thompson made a trip up to Michigan earlier this spring where he met with defensive line coach Shaun Nua and offensive line coach Ed Warinner. Thompson could project to defensive line or offensive line in college, but prefers defensive end. He ran an impressive 4.26 shuttle time on Saturday.

Tegra Tshabola
Tegra Tshabola (Nick Lucero/Rivals.com)

Lakota West is a familiar stop for college coaches in Ohio and they'll be back again for Tshabola. The freshman measured in at 6-foot-5, 315-pounds and moves really well for a player his size. Miami (Ohio) will probably be the first school to offer he said but there is a lot of Big Ten interest in him. Tshabola has visited a lot of schools already but he said his best visits so far were Ohio State, Michigan, Kentucky and Georgia. He really wants offers from Kentucky, Georgia and Clemson but his dream school has always been Ohio State.

Other prospects who received invites were Louisville (Ky.) Trinity 2021 linebacker Charlie Ely, Campbellsville, Ky., 2020 receiver Malachi Corley and Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier 2020 running back Ben Bracken.
