Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell and National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney don’t always see eye to eye. In this edition of Rival Views, the two debate which injury has affected college football the most this season.

FARRELL'S VIEW: FLORIDA STATE DB DERWIN JAMES

It’s hands down Derwin James. I know many schools have had more injuries than Florida State this season, but I don’t think there is one team that has had an injury as important. Think of taking away Dalvin Cook from the Seminole offense. That’s how important James is to the team's defense.

Louisville could have still throttled Florida State with James roaming the defensive secondary, but he would have held Lamar Jackson in check a bit more. James covers so much ground and is so important in run support that he would have crossed paths with Jackson numerous times.

And Florida State doesn't lose to North Carolina or Clemson with James playing.

The Seminoles had some early issues on defense at linebacker and in the secondary, but with James around those troubles would have been lessened. He is the motor, heart and soul of the defense, and losing him in the second game of the season was a killer.

If Florida State wants to have James do next season what Jabrill Peppers is doing this season for Michigan, he could handle it. James could play any linebacker position, cornerback, safety, contribute in the return game and play offense. Heck, maybe he will although I doubt Jimbo Fisher risks injury to his most important player by doing that.

James will be back this season at some point and you will see the instant difference in the Florida State defense.

GORNEY'S VIEW: UCLA QB JOSH ROSEN

Josh Rosen, when healthy, is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. The news that he might be out for the rest of the season is not only bad for the Bruins because of his abilities, but it has to hurt team morale too especially with UCLA amid an awful season.

The former five-star quarterback has some sort of shoulder injury. There have been reports that Rosen has nerve damage but Jim Mora refuted those stories and said he wouldn’t put it past Rosen to return at some point.

That’s doubtful.

UCLA is a miserable 3-5 and visits upstart Colorado on Thursday night. The Bruins lost to Arizona State in the game where Rosen was hurt and dropped games to Washington State and Utah with Rosen on the sidelines.

Backup quarterback Mike Fafaul has had some admirable performances in Rosen’s absence, throwing for 722 yards, eight touchdowns and six picks since taking over, but nothing looks or feels the same.

UCLA has Colorado, Oregon State, USC and Cal to finish out the regular season. Really, at this point, those games could go either way. The Bruins have a lot of talent but without Rosen there’s no guarantee the offense is going to run smoothly.

On the UCLA website’s schedule section, the Bruins have a date for the Pac-12 championship game listed on Dec. 2. The way things are going now, and with Rosen on the sidelines, the Bruins will be watching that game on television.
