MORE RIVAL VIEWS: Which 2019 prospect has the highest ceiling?

National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell and National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney don’t always see eye to eye. In this edition of Rival Views, the two debate which 2019 prospect could be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft in a few years.

FARRELL'S VIEW: SPENCER RATTLER

Based on how many quarterbacks are taken first overall I’d be foolish not to pick one, so I’m going with Oklahoma signee Spencer Rattler. To me, he’s hands-down the most dangerous quarterback in this class with his ability to pass from the pocket, improvise on the run and hurt teams with his feet as well. He’s going into a great system where he will put up monster numbers and produced Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

Rattler is just what the NFL likes in its quarterbacks. He needs to add weight and get stronger, but everything else is there for him to be the No. 1 guy down the line.

GORNEY'S VIEW: DEMARVIN LEAL

Since the year 2000, there have been 13 quarterbacks drafted No. 1 overall followed by four defensive ends and two offensive tackles. That’s it. No other positions have been taken at the top during that stretch, so that leads me to think a quarterback will probably be first overall when the 2019 class comes around to the NFL Draft.

But I’m just not sure there is a No. 1 overall quarterback in this class, although Rattler will have a fantastic career in Oklahoma’s offense. So I’m picking Texas A&M defensive end signee DeMarvin Leal after seeing him all week at the All-American Bowl.

Leal looks awesome in person, he’s already filled out physically and he had dominating moments during the week in San Antonio. On film he looks unstoppable and then in person, he had a great showing. He could go to the SEC and really make his mark early on in College Station because he’s as ready from a physical standpoint as exists in this class.

Three or four years from now, I would not be shocked at all to see Leal in the discussion to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.
