TAKE TWO: Is a fifth star on the way for 2020 QB Harrison Bailey?

Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell and National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney don’t always see eye to eye. In this edition of Rival Views, the two debate if there is a five star quarterback in the 2019 class and who is the closest to that status right now.

FARRELL'S VIEW: NO

It’s still early, but to me I don’t see a five-star quarterback in this class just yet. When it comes to who is the closest, I like Spencer Rattler and Bo Nix the best right now. Rattler has some size concerns and Nix needs to be a bit more consistent in a few areas, but both are skilled kids who can extend the play and improvise. But neither, at least right now, wows me in the way a five-star should, especially at that position.

GORNEY'S VIEW: YES

I don’t think this class is loaded at that position by any means, but every year there are quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, so it has to be a consideration when we look at rankings.

If Baker Mayfield can be drafted first overall, then Oklahoma commit Spencer Rattler has the potential to be a five-star. I like the dual-threat quarterbacks in this class and their potential a little more than the pro-style quarterbacks.

I know that’s counter-intuitive thinking when it comes to NFL Draft picks, but when I look at the players ranked at dual-threat and then I look at how the position is being transformed in the NFL, I would lean toward a five-star coming from that group.

The problem is I’m not ready to say one guy is definitely a five-star. Rattler has all the tools and he should be phenomenal in Norman. Ohio State pledge Dwan Mathis, four-star Jayden Daniels, Clemson pledge Taisun Phommachanh, Alabama commit Taulia Tagovailoa and others all have outstanding skills. There’s probably a five-star QB in this class. The only issue is I don’t know who it is.
