Rival Views: Which 2019 prospect will earn his fifth star?

Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell and National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney don’t always see eye to eye. In this edition of Rival Views, the two debate which 2019 prospect is most likely to eventually earn his fifth star.

FARRELL'S VIEW: OT DARNELL WRIGHT

I’m going to go with offensive tackle Darnell Wright from West Virginia over quite a few other candidates. The offensive tackle position is a premium one, and we don’t have any five-stars there yet for 2019. Wright is far and away the best candidate at the position in his class. He’s big, he has excellent feet, he mixes it up well even going against older prospects and I like the way he can build out his frame. We have a center for the first time ever in Clay Webb as a five-star, and it’s only a matter of time before a tackle joins him.

Ohio defensive end Zach Harrison is a freak of nature, and if he refines his technique a bit more, he’s likely a lock down the line. Running backs like Devyn Ford, Trey Sanders and Quarvaris Crouch also have a shot. Texas defensive end Marcus Stripling falls into the Harrison category as a freak as well who could put it all together. Texas safety Brian Williams is probably the closest thing to a lock next to Wright because he’s good at everything.

Keep an eye on all of these guys, and of course, as always happens, someone will shoot up from outside the Rivals100 or even outside the Rivals250 and surprise us all as well. It’s very early.

GORNEY'S VIEW: DB BRIAN WILLIAMS

Ranked No. 11 overall, Brian Williams just missed out on being named a five-star, but the Dallas Bishop Dunne safety could definitely be in the running through his junior season.

His sophomore film is fantastic for numerous reasons. He can line up and shut down slot receivers, he’s excellent in coverage and wins 50/50 balls. Williams does a phenomenal job of reading what the quarterback is doing, trusting his eyes and then breaking on the ball.

Williams has hands like a wide receiver, so he can go up and beat receivers for a lot of passes, and he has tremendous athleticism as well. There’s no question the Bishop Dunne standout is one of the best safeties in the 2019 class, and so he’ll definitely be in the running for five-star status.

I also think running backs Devyn Ford, Quavaris Crouch and Noah Cain could absolutely move into the five-star realm along with athlete Trey Sanders, who could be a big-time running back or defensive back at Alabama.

But in terms of a player that I see as a surefire five-star prospect, I’m going with Williams because he’s such an incredibly talented safety.
