Rising Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines offensive lineman Cornelius Lewis says he’s narrowed his list to five schools and lists three as potential leaders.
“I’m looking at North Carolina, Tennessee, Iowa State, Florida State and Florida for my visits,” he said. “I haven’t set them up yet, but I think it will be those five. Florida State, Florida and North Carolina are my top three. Tennessee is keeping close.”
Lewis (6-4, 305, 5.2) has offers from all five of his favorites, along with Auburn, Miami, Louisville and Syracuse. He said he has elevated the five schools he plans to visit due to his relationship with the coaches.
“It’s pretty much the same with all of them,” he said. “I really like the coaches at all of those schools, especially Florida State and Florida. With Florida State, they have some real nice coaches and a great atmosphere. I like the school as a whole, the football team and the academics and the campus. Plus, it’s close to home.
“With Florida, I enjoyed myself when I went there for a visit this season. The players were really cool. They had a lot of good things to say about the coaches and the direction their program is heading. I like their campus, too, and the fact that it’s close to home.”
He said North Carolina would have a distance factor, but that might be outweighed by the opportunity the Tar Heels have for him to play early.
He plans to schedule his official visits when the season is finished.
As a senior, Lewis has helped lead Raines to a 9-1 record and the second round of the state playoffs.
Lewis recently got a qualifying score of 18 on the ACT. Paired with his 2.6 GPA, he projects as a qualifier.
