Rising 3-Star DE Peter Mpagi talks Longhorns, west coast offers
AUSTIN, Tex. – High three-star defensive end Peter Mpagi feels as though he’s done his job showing what he has to offer, now it’s time for Texas to do the same.
After his performance at the Longhorns’ latest prospect camp last Tuesday, he felt as though he did enough to make his case as being worthy of an offer. If not, he’s got a good feeling about several other teams that have been recruiting him.
“I was working out a lot and they were taking videos of me to show to (Tom) Herman,” he said. “I just talked with Coach Herman and he said that he was very impressed with me. He was giving me some tips in the [indoor practice facility], talking to me a lot, and said that they would get back to me in a couple of days.”
Mpagi was recently out for a visit to Washington and had plenty of positive things to say about the experience. With or without the Longhorns, the Huskies are now one of his top contenders, but he said that he also has plans to visit Northwestern on June 15 and Stanford from June 19th through the 24th.
Although he’s accumulated more than 20 offers, Texas and Stanford have yet to join that group but he’s included each in his recently released Top 8.
“I think that I’ll be offered soon, it’s been a long process; it’s been over a year now,” he said of Texas. “I came to the camp, did my best, they said that they were impressed, I feel like this is the last step.”
IN HIS WORDS
On Stanford
“I want someone that is going to be in position to win a conference and national championship,” he said. “To have that and good academics, I feel like Stanford could be all of that for me, so that’s why I’m going there. I feel like it’s a really good school that I could fit into.”
On Washington
“I have said that (Texas) would be the leader,” he said. “But really, I feel like they would be tied with Washington I went there last week and I really liked it. Seattle is a really pretty city and I can see myself being there too.”
“I love Coach (Chris) Peterson he’s probably the best coach that I’ve met so far,” he said. “He’s really interactive and he has a program he calls Built for Life, where after football you don’t have to worry about anything. Also, I can play outside linebacker there – come out of the two-point stance, rush as much as I want or drop into coverage.”
