HOUSTON, Tex. -- Peter Mpagi might be a relatively new name to the landscape of highly recruited players in the state of Texas, but that doesn’t mean that he’s wasting any time with the decisions he’s making in his recruitment.

The Houston-area defensive end has quickly eclipsed the double-digit offer threshold but is already thinking that he has an idea when he wants to put a wrap on things. He’s already got June 8 circled on his calendar as his planned commitment date and he said that TCU has earned his favor here with a little more than a month to go before that date arrives.

Mpagi was offered by the Horned Frogs while on campus for a junior day earlier this spring, and that’s when he said that the flood gates opened. Of course, it’s going to be a race for the other teams that have involved themselves with him if another team is going to convince him to commit before the deadline he’s set.

IN HIS WORDS

On Cal, who offered on February 10

“Things with them have been great; we’ve been calling and texting,” he said. “I’ve never been to California, so I want to see how it looks … I want a lot of playing time - I don’t want to sit as a freshman and their education stands out to me because I’m big on that.”

On TCU

“They offered me at their junior day and that’s when things started to blow up,” he said. “They’re my Number One right now. I like [Dan Sharp] is very funny - I think of him as a father-figure, I really just like their whole facilities, and their uniforms are really nice.”

On Texas - Mpagi has been recruited by defensive line coach Oscar Giles

“The visit went great,” he said. “They said they thought I was special and have been texting me back-and-forth to build a relationship with me. I think they’ll eventually offer me, that’s what I’m thinking.”

RIVALS REACTION

Calling TCU his top team spells everything out for the time being. It’s easy to see why so many teams are interested in him - he’s got a long frame that’s ready to add mass and had a real easy way of winning reps in the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas on Sunday.
