WACO, Texas — Midland (Texas) Legacy 2024 quarterback Marcos Davila returned to the field for the first time in a competitive setting last Friday night when his team took on Lake Belton and Waco Midway in a three-team scrimmage.

For Davila, it was a solid opportunity to take his leadership onto the gridiron for a Legacy team with some new faces in big roles.

"This year, I just have to take a leadership role," Davila said. "We lost some guys so I just have to lead these sophomores and juniors and we just gotta get them going. We had a couple of missed assignments but that happens early on, we just gotta get that fixed."

Davila had a big summer on the recruiting trail, picking up eight offers from Baylor, Indiana, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, TCU, North Texas, Texas Tech and Rutgers.

"It felt good finally getting out where people could see me," he said. "I had to go out and show what I could do and I picked up some offers."

Of those offers, Davila mentioned TCU, Pitt and West Virginia as ones that stood out.

"Me and (TCU offensive coordinator) Garrett Riley have had a pretty good relationship," he said about his interest in TCU. "We've been talking for about two years now since I was a freshman and he was at SMU. I feel close to him."

Newly-hired Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr.'s track record has stood out to Davila early on, and it has him looking forward to building a relationship with the Panthers.

"Pitt, they're just different," he said. "They have a new offensive coordinator and he has a ton of experience coaching Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning. I feel like that'd be a good fit with the pro-style offense they run."

West Virginia stands out early on because of the genuine feel he gets with Neal Brown and offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.

"Coach Brown is a family guy, I like the way he coaches. Graham is a Texas guy, so that's pretty cool."

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Davila is the No. 22 ranked pro-style quarterback in the country for the class of 2024, according to Rivals.
