Retting being aggressive

San Clemente, Calif., quarterback Chase Rettig doesn't have any offers so far, but he's not just sitting around waiting for a that first offer.
After a successful showing at Tennessee's one-day skills position camp on June 2, Rettig will continue to make the rounds in the hopes of garnering more interest from coaches.

"I'm keeping things open," Rettig said. "I know there's a lot of other guys committing, so opportunities should start to open up."
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound pro-style quarterback will lead San Clemente in the Air Strike Passing Tournament on Saturday. The 16-team event features some of the top football programs in southern California, including Long Beach Poly, Tesoro and Oaks Christian. San Clemente and Dana Hills are co-hosting the tournament.
Rettig will camp at Arizona State on Sunday and then head out to the East Coast for camps at North Carolina and Boston College next weekend.
"I don't have any offers, so I'm in no position to sit around," he said. "I need to keep working hard and get every opportunity I can to show I have what it takes."
Though his showing at Tennessee's camp didn't elicit any offers, it did help Rettig build upon his relationship with the Vols' coaching staff.
"It went well," he said. "I got to go out there and prove to them that I'm what they're looking for. I talked to the coaches quite a bit. I got there at lunch, so I didn't get to spend as much time there as I wanted to, but I think I used my time pretty well.
"Throughout the day, I was with quarterbacks coach David Reaves. I got to talk to offensive coordinator Jim Chaney a lot, too. Reaves got to see me a lot, and since I wasn't at the first part of the camp they let me get a little more reps. I think that helped me. Before I left I went in and spoke with coach Lane Kiffin in his office."
Rettig came away from the day impressed with UT's coaching staff, particularly Reaves.
"I like him, he's a great guy," he said. "We've built a good relationship and I communicate with him daily."
Rettig said he talks with Tennessee and UCLA the most lately. He said he has remained in contact with USC and hopes to attend their Rising Stars Camp on June 24 and 25.
"Tennessee is my favorite right now," he said. "I'm open to any school, but I feel like they would be a good fit for me."
Rettig admitted he keeps an eye on who's committing where, especially since most of the top passers in the nation are picking schools now. Though being offer-free can be frustrating at times, he said he's trying to stay patient and positive.
"It's just kind of a wait," Rettig said. "You can't get too frustrated. The whole recruiting process should be a fun thing, regardless of your situation. I think stuff will take care of itself."
