Redhawks land another

When St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter safety and wide receiver Deandre Gilmore looks around at his first college practice, he will see a familiar face unless something changes.
Gilmore's high school teammate, linebacker Michael Baker said earlier today that he had committed to Miami of Ohio. Gilmore says he has committed to the Redhawks as well.

"I visited Miami this (past) weekend," Gilmore said. "I talked to coach Deandre Smith. I told him I wanted to commit."
Gilmore had made other visits before his trip to Miami.
"I visited Tennessee," he said. "I went to junior days at Tennessee, Ball State, and Miami."
While he says he has committed to Miami, Gilmore has not ruled out a couple other trips.
"I'll probably visit a couple schools this summer," he said. "Illinois, Kansas State, and Houston offered me a scholarship. I'll probably visit Illinois, Kansas State, and maybe Northwestern.
"I don't think I'll change my mind, but I can't say for sure. I think I'll stay with Miami."
Gilmore says he has seen plenty he likes on his two visits to Miami.
"I liked it a lot there," he said. "I like their campus. I like the people a lot. I think I can play early there."
The 6-foot-1 and 193-pound Gilmore made 70 solo tackles and intercepted three passes during his junior season. He also caught 36 passes and scored five times.
"Miami got me as an athlete," Gilmore said. "But I think I'll play safety there. I think they'll give me an option, but they think I'll be better at safety."
