Recruitment goes national for ATL cornerback

It was only a matter of time before Atlanta (Ga.) Washington cornerback Branden Smith began to pick up offers from the big boys by the day. Not too long ago, a few select, but elite, Southeastern programs had extended Smith scholarship offers. Recently, his list of offers reached double figures.
On Wednesday, his list of schools went national.

"My coach just told me that Notre Dame and Michigan offered me," Smith said on Wednesday afternoon. "I think that's real good. I was surprised by it. I really didn't know that they were going to offer me but I was surprised. I don't know a lot about them but I'm getting to know about them though."
Smith clearly made an impression recently when Notre Dame assistant coach Corwin Brown stopped by the high school Tuesday to look in on the talented athlete. It only took one day for the scholarship offer to follow.
Despite the excitement of the new offers, Smith is not ready to name any favorites.
"I'm excited every time an offer comes in," he said. "I'm thinking about any school. Any school that offers me, I'm thinking about. Right now, I don't have a top five or nothing."
So far during the spring evaluation period, Smith has noticed Notre Dame, Stanford and UAB stop by the school for in-person evaluations but several more should follow throughout the spring.
Smith has the State Track and Field meet coming up soon where he will compete in the 100 meters and the 4x100. Smith's best time this season in the 100 is 10.5 seconds but he has a goal to get his time down to 10.3 at State.
