Recruiting picture coming together for Johnson

New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton five-star wide receiver Tyron Johnson has not eliminated any schools at this point in time, but there are a few aspects of the recruiting picture that are coming together.

"We don't really have a top five right now, but he has a few schools he is really interested in," Tyron's father, Tyrone, said. "He's really interested in Texas Tech, LSU [and] Oklahoma State; we're taking an official to Texas Tech, and we're taking an official to Arizona.
"I think Texas Tech is Sept. 13, whatever that Saturday is. I don't have the date on Arizona, because I think he and two more teammates are going to Arizona together -- Arthur McGinnis and Kendal Franklin."
In addition to trips to Texas Tech and Arizona, a few other programs are also in the running to receive official visits.
"We've never set a date yet, but I know for sure we're going to get to Oklahoma State, too, and we're going to go to Oregon," Tyrone Johnson said. "I know they said it's going to be the dead period when we go out there, so we may have to get back out there to Oregon too. Because he really wanted to see Oregon."
Tyron participated in the Rivals.com Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour in Baltimore but was not able to attend any college camps or make any other unofficial visits in June. Next on his schedule is a trip to Oregon for The Opening at Nike's Worldwide Headquarters. After that trip, his schedule is again action packed.
"We have a Hoover, Ala., tournament," Tyrone Johnson said. "The schedule is really tight because they have a lot of 7-on-7 tournaments. They have one in Alabama and there's like three of them, but I know they have one coming up in Hoover, Ala. I think it's like the 16th or something like that. They've been real tight with the school and practice and everything."
The packed schedule is likely going to prevent him from being able to make any unofficial visits the rest of summer.
"Everything from here on out, if it's not us going to LSU or something like that, we're going to wait for an official for everything else," Tyrone Johnson said.
In addition to life on the football field, Johnson has also been busy in the classroom. If everything goes well, Johnson could be making his way to a college campus in the very near future, and it could impact the timing of his decision.
"He's working on mid-terming right now," Tyrone Johnson said. "If he mid-terms, he's going to [announce] at the Under Armour game, but if not he'll probably wait until Signing Day.
"He's in the classroom right now, so he'll know if he'll be able to mid-term or not at the end of July."
As for one school beginning to separate from the pack, Tyron had the Red Raiders at the front of the pack at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. It appears the Red Raiders continue to hold an edge even if he has not trimmed his list.
"Not really separating, but he's really in love with Texas Tech. He really is in love with Texas Tech," Tyrone Johnson said. "It's not really separating, but Tyron, I try to talk to him about it, but he's really focused on his senior season right now. He's still training hard and still in the books. So he's still wide open. I mean, anything can happen in the next few months. It's still really wide open. If somebody won him over or something like that but he's really not leaning anywhere real hard. He's just always shown a lot of interest in Texas Tech."
