Recruiting picks up for Lowney

Radnor (Pa.) Archbishop John Carroll defensive end Jack Lowney is garnering interest from a variety of colleges. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder is hearing from the Big East and Big Ten.
"I don't have any offers yet, but I have been to Pittsburgh," he said. "I'm also hearing from Connecticut and Illinois is showing interest too."

Lowney discussed his visit to Pittsburgh last month a bit more.
"It was great," he said. "I went to one of their practices and was able to watch them do everything. They showed me the facilities and it was nice. I also like how they are a team on the rise. They have great talent and a lot of young talent."
What does Lowney want in a college?
"Definitely academics is important along with a great atmosphere," he said. "Of course the football program is big and staying local would be nice. Anywhere is fine though. I'll also really look at my position coach, that's a huge factor too."
Lowney earned all-county, all-league, all-city and all-state as a junior after helping his team to a 10-3 record.
"I play offense and defense, I prefer defensive end," he said. "I like reacting to the play and you can be a lot more aggressive. I had about 50 tackles, three sacks and four deflections last year."
