Recruiting Picking Up for Ocoee Safety

Ocoee, Fla.-West Orange safety Geno Thompson continues to hear regularly from many Division I schools. He said he's received correspondence from at least 46 different schools up to this point.

"Alabama sends (letters) about every week," Thompson. "So does LSU and UCF. Florida just requested a tape from us also.
No offers yet, but a few colleges stopped by his high school last week.
"Army and Navy came by," Thompson said. "I also think Stanford and Georgia Southern. That's about it right now. I didn't talk to any of them. The only one I know who came to a practice was Georgia Southern."
Thompson, who is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, is being recruited as a strong safety. That's his primary position at West Orange High School although he's played several other spots during his career. Last season on defense he registered 87 tackles, 2 sacks, recovered 2 fumbles (one for a touchdown), and had an interception.
"I've played tight end on offense," Thompson said. "I've also played linebacker and I've played a little bit of defensive end, but mostly strong safety."
Any favorite schools?
"No, right now I'm just keeping my options open," Thompson said.
Thompson plans to attend a football camp or two this summer but hasn't decided on which ones. He holds a 3.83 grade point average and is already qualified after scoring a 1090 on the SAT, but he plans to retake the SAT this summer.
Geno is in the midst of spring football practice at West Orange right now. WOHS will play at nearby Dr. Phillips High School on Friday, May 24th for a spring jamboree.
