Recruiting heats up for Elkins

Charlotte (N.C.) Ardrey Kell safety Troy Elkins continues to look for his first offer. According to the 6-foot-2, 195-pounder, a variety of schools are keeping tabs on him this season to see what he can do.
"Our first game is on Friday and my coach is going to be sending my game film out to all the colleges that have been asking about me," he said. "Most of them just want to make sure I can play some football and then they may pull the trigger.

"Most of the same teams as before are interested including Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Wake Forest and Marshall. I've also been getting a lot of letters lately from North Carolina, Florida State and Georgia. They all want to see film. Coach MacIntyre from Duke and Coach Withers from North Carolina both said they would most likely come to see a game themselves this year."
With plenty of interest coming, does Elkins like anybody?
"Right now the main three I like are North Carolina, Tennessee and Wake Forest," he said. "But, I really want to see what NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are all about. I'm hoping to pick up a little more interest from them. All of those schools have just caught my attention and I hear a lot of good things about them such as Virginia Tech's defensive backs, Virginia's facilities and how NC State's program is on the rise. I just want to do some research on those teams more."
In preparation for the season, the Charlotte prospect has seen a major improvement in his game.
"I've seen it particularly in my backpedal speed, which is great," he said. "I feel like I can lock down any receiver from the safety or cornerback position."
