Recruiting heats up for CB Coates

Colleges are taking a look at Pomfret (Md.) McDonough cornerback Marchez Coates. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder is getting interest from schools across the country. Does he like anybody?
"I'm getting a lot of looks from Maryland, Boston College, TCU, Rutgers, Penn State, Temple and Pittsburgh," he said. "I haven't gotten an offer yet, but it's coming. The schools are just looking for more information on me."

To date, Coates has visited a few schools including Rutgers and Maryland this spring along with Boston College and Rutgers this past fall for games.
"I loved Rutgers and Maryland," he said. "Of course, I grew up in Maryland, I've always been a Terps fan. I like Rutgers too, the excitement, the stadium and the coaches. I love the atmosphere."
Without any offers to date, Coates remains open though and emphasized what he wants in a college.
"First, I'm looking for the coaches and the atmosphere," he said. "I'm going to be living there for four years, I want to see how the people are, how nice they are and I want their goodness to rub off on me. I'm going to check out all the little stuff, how the field is, and the jerseys and of course the academics. I want a school that'll help me into business management or be an accountant or to be a football player at the next level."
Coates split time as a junior playing behind two seniors.
"I started the first five games of the year cause one of our seniors was hurt," he said. "I was rotating the rest of the season."
With somewhat limited on the field time, what stands out about Coates as a player?
"First of all it's my charisma, my main thing is charisma," he said. "I'm a leader, I'm coachable, I'm humble and I don't really talk trash. I just play in the moment and love playing football."
