Recruiting is already starting for some major talents in the 2010 recruiting class. Richmond (Va.) Varina is home to one talented lineman in 6-foot-4, 298-pound offensive tackle Marquis Wallace.
"I was at Tennessee recently and it was great, excellent," he said. "I went up with DeAntre Rhodes. I especially liked the academics there. They basically help their players graduate in 3.5 years so if you want to leave early you can.
"The stadium is great, the facilities are great and Coach Scott is a great person. I know him from Richmond."
Wallace plans to attend more camps this summer.
"I'm planning to get to Virginia Tech on July 12th with DeAntre Rhodes," he said. "I'm going to Virginia's big man camp on June 21st. I think I'm going to Boston College sometime soon and Georgia in July."
Lots of schools are already interested in Wallace including Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, ECU, Ohio State, Boston College, Purdue, Maryland, UCLA, Florida, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Michigan, West Virginia and NC State.
Does the rising junior like anybody?
"I never really grew up a fan of anyone, but I was impressed by Tennessee," he said. "Of course I like Virginia Tech a lot since I've got teammates there. I love Virginia too.
"I'm just looking for a family in college. I want a team that is really close. I want good academics and I don't care about location."
Wallace moved from guard to tackle this past season. He went on to discuss his best skills on the field.
"It took me a little while to get used to it, but I'm very good with my lower body strength, I pass block well and drive block well," he said. "I just have to tone up. I think I also have good feet. I'm a versatile player who could play defensive tackle too."
