Rivals.com asked a number of Florida-based recruits who they'd like to see lead the Hurricanes into the 2016 season. Their responses are listed below.
DB Trajan Bandy
Status: The four-star junior is uncommitted. He does not hold a Miami offer as of now but recently picked up an offer from Alabama. He projects as one of the top 2017 prospects in the state of Florida.
Pick: Texas head coach Charlie Strong
In his words: "He's a great coach for the job and he's genuine."
DB Al Blades
Status: A 2018 prospect, Blades was committed to Miami but backed off his pledge upon the removal of Al Golden.
Pick: Former Miami head coach Butch Davis
In his words: "I think there's a lot of names out there to choose from. I think they should just take their time and choose who best fits what there trying to do."
WR Sam Bruce
Status: Bruce has been committed to Miami since July of 2014. He is considering Florida, Ohio State, Auburn and others as backup options.
Pick: Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal
In his words: "Cristobal. If I was the AD at Miami, that's my hire."
OL Kai-Leon Herbert
Status: A class-of-2017 prospect, the uncommitted Herbert holds more than 12 scholarship offers, including one from Miami.
Pick: Former NFL linebacker and Miami great Ray Lewis
In his words: "He knows Miami better than anyone he led the defense to a championship and he seems like the right fit."
ATH Christopher Henderson
Status: A 2017 prospect, Henderson holds four scholarship offers, including one from Miami.
Pick: Mario Cristobal
In his words: "It should be Cristobal because I feel like he can keep all of the South Florida talent down here in Miami."
ATH Michael Irvin
Status: Irvin, the son of the Cowboys great by the same name, remains strongly committed to Miami and has not decided if he will take other official visits.
Pick: Mario Cristobal
In his words: "It's about tradition. Cristobal has put so many linemen in the league. He's probably put as many linemen in the league as Miami has put players in the league recently to be honest. He's a good name and a big name."
DE Joseph Jackson
Status: Jackson remains committed to Miami, but Notre Dame, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina remain involved. Jackson plans to take all five official visits allotted to him.
Pick: None
In his words: "I'm not fit to pick a coach. I'm not fit to answer that. It's not my best suit."
TE Tre McKitty
Status: Just a junior, McKitty remains committed to Miami but is also considering Florida, among others.
Pick: Butch Davis
In his words: "We just need a good coach no matter who that is, but I think Butch Davis would be very interesting."
RB Zack Moss
Status: Moss has been committed to Miami since April.
Pick: Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin or Florida associate head coach Randy Shannon
In his words: Reason for Kiffin is because I've met him before and he's had great experience coaching. He knows how to win and Is a great OC. The reason for Shannon is because he's a real cool dude. He would be a great recruiter for Miami because of his background.
DB Ahman Ross
Status: Ross has been committed to Miami since September.
Pick: Mario Cristobal
In his words: "He's a Miami native and recruits extremely well. He also comes from a winning program. I think he can bring UM back to the top."
RB Shaun Shivers
Status: Just a sophomore, Shivers is Sam Bruce's cousin and one of the fastest 2018 prospects in Florida. He holds five scholarship offers, but does not have an invite from Miami as of now.
Pick: Miami interim head coach Larry Scott
In his words: "As soon as he took over, UM started winning. Plus, they just beat Virginia. That's a big win for them."
ATH Cedrick Wright
Status: Wright is committed to Miami but plans to take official visits to Clemson and Florida in the coming weeks.
Pick: Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables
In his words: "Honestly, I'd pick Brent Venables. He's the most exiting assistant. He loves the game and makes you excited about everything. We just need a good coach that wins and that I can have a relationship, though."
WR Keyshawn Young
Status: Young has a host of scholarship offers from schools all over the country, including one from Miami.
Pick: Mario Cristobal
In his words: "Cristobal because he's the guy that knows how to get it back to the old 'U'."
