Rebels show interest in Kentucky QB

With an air of uncertainty surrounding the future of Eli
Manning, Ole Miss has apparently expanded its quarterback search for this class

and gotten involved with a record-setting player from Kentucky.
Lexington (Ky.) quarterback
Jacob Doss says he's in the
process of setting up an official visit with the Rebels.
"I'm definitely going to try to make an official visit
down there," said Doss, a member of the Rivals.com
Kentucky Top 15 team. "They said
their focus is real heavy on quarterback right now since they don't know what's
going to happen with Eli, and I may wind up having a shot at a scholarship. If I
don't, there's still a possibility of going as a preferred walk-on. I'm not
closing the door on any of my options because I'd love to be able to go to a
great school like Ole Miss. We've got several people from Lexington Catholic,
just regular students not football players or anything, who are down there right
now. They say it's a great place to go to school."
Doss (6-2, 202, 4.7) hopes to make a visit to Columbia
this weekend (1/10).
"They told me today they need me to commit by Saturday,"
he said. "That's kind of tough since I've never seen the place, and my mother's
been in the hospital lately, so I haven't been able to get out much, but we may
try to get up there this weekend."
He also has a visit set up for Middle Tennessee on Jan.
17, with the Blue Raiders possibly poised to offer.
"I talked to coach Robbins the other day," Doss said.
"He told me he'd be back in touch as soon as possible to let me know where I
stand. They're taking two quarterbacks this year, and I think they've got one
right now. He told me they're looking at me and another guy for the other spot."
Georgia, Notre Dame, Marshall, Ohio, Kentucky and West
Virginia have also shown varied amounts of interest this season.
Doss is the Knight's all-time leading passer with 8,034
yards, 112 touchdown passes and a 61 percent completion rate. As a senior, he
completed 157 of 252 attempts (62 percent) for 2,943 yards, 40 touchdowns and
only four interceptions as LexCath played one of the state's toughest schedules.
He also broke former University of Kentucky standout and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Tim Couch's state record with a touchdown pass in 31 consecutive games.
