Villa Park (Calif.) Orange Lutheran defensive lineman Michael Reardon is big on firsts.
The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder hopes to be on the team that helps Orange Lutheran win a CIF title for the first time. He's also honored to be selected by Rivals.com to play in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
"This is really cool because I'm going to get to do something that nobody has ever done before," Reardon said.
"Being in the first game is something that nobody can ever take from you. Being the first makes this selection even more special. I always wanted to play in an All-American after my senior season, and this is just an incredible honor."
Reardon's selection shouldn't be a surprise to those that follow football in Southern California. There haven't been many more dominating players in Los Angeles this fall. He helped team to a 9-1 record in one of the toughest leagues in the country. His dominating play helped him move up into the Rivals250. He was one of the hottest recruits in California before he committed to USC.
"I want to show people that I'm a good player," he said. "I'm going to go 100 percent no matter what the situation is. Even if we're down by a few touchdowns, I'm not going to get down. I'm going to go hard on every play and constantly be a leader for the team.
"They're going to see a big kid that's just as good at stopping the run as he is getting after the quarterback. I also consider myself pretty athletic since I've got that basketball background in me. I sat out my sophomore season to focus on basketball, but I quickly realized that football is my future."
That future is in a Trojan uniform.
"It's kind of close to home and it's a great school," Reardon said about his decision to commit to USC over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington State and others.
"They're third in the BCS right now and they're always going to be in the national title hunt. I always looked at USC as a dream school for me. It was just the right fit for me on a number of different levels."
