RCS Orlando: Latest for Gators, Tide, Seminoles, others

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The first stop on the 2016 Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour was not short on talent. A number of top players from around Florida and beyond showed up to compete and update their college recruitments. Here are recruiting news and notes on some of the event’s most sought-after prospects.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

Running back Devan Barrett did not work out on Saturday because of an injury, but updated his recruitment anyway. Barrett recently visited Miami and Florida, and hopes to tour Ohio State, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee this offseason.

Class of 2018 running back Lorenzo Lingard, who won the event’s running back MVP award, plans to take a college road trip in early March. Florida State, Florida, Clemson and Alabama are among the planned stops. On Saturday, Lingard said Florida State still leads his recruitment, but Florida has made a move up his list in recent months.

AUBURN TIGERS

Running back Adarius Lemons arrived in Orlando with a top five of North Carolina, Ohio State, Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee. Lemons said the offense of each appeals to his playing style. Lemons intends to wait to until after his senior season to make a verbal commitment, citing a desire to shut down his recruitment completely after making his choice.

Rivals250 offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz is thought to be a Michigan lean. Originally from New Jersey, Ruiz has a number of teammates currently playing for the Wolverines. Alabama, Ole Miss, North Carolina and Auburn are all heavily in the mix as well. On Saturday, Ruiz called North Carolina a “dream school since I was little.”

CLEMSON TIGERS

Clemson is still thought to be the favorite in five-star wide receiver James Robinson's recruitment, but a verbal commitment to the Tigers doesn’t seem as certain as it once did. Florida and others are heavily in the mix. Robinson said he may make a college decision in the near future and will likely select Clemson or Florida

Despite declining to name favorites, running back Anthony Davis has taken a shine to Oklahoma and Florida. According to Davis, the Sooners’ offense is what makes OU attractive. Clemson and Florida are also very involved with Davis.

Florida continues to make up ground in the race to land five-star wide receiver James Robinson. Robinson said he may make a college decision in the near future and will likely select Clemson or Florida.

Syracuse commit Daewood Davis continues to look around despite his commitment status. Davis will visit Syracuse this spring but also plans to tour UCF, USF and others. Davis says that a Florida State offer would totally change his recruitment. And while the Seminoles' coaching staff sends him a steady stream of mail, there has been no verbal contact.

KENTUCKY WILDCATS

Defensive end DeMarco Artis says that Maryland holds the lead in his recruitment because the program has done a good job selling itself to his family. Artis says he hopes to visit Kentucky, to which he was once committed, this offseason. He may also visit North Carolina.

One of the day’s MVP winners, Kentucky quarterback commit Mac Jones has welcomed a number of offers over the last week. He intends to visit Arizona State and others this offseason. Jones will take a hard look at each school involved in his recruitment despite his commitment to the Wildcats.

MIAMI HURRICANES

Rivals250 wide receiver Mike Harley Jr. continues to reel in scholarship offers but says that West Virginia and Miami lead his recruitment for the moment. Harley, a junior at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, will visit West Virginia on March 13. His favorite schools are subject to change as other offers arrive, but the Mountaineers and Hurricanes seem like the teams to beat at this early juncture.

OTHER NOTES

Anthony White Jr., who is being recruited to play both wide receiver and defensive back, says he hopes to visit Notre Dame and Stanford this offseason. He plans to camp at both schools in the hopes of earing scholarship offers. White, who has a number of offers already in tow, names no favorite in the process.

Class of 2018 athlete Ken Montgomery is planning a West Coast swing for late June. According to the sophomore, he plans to visit both USC and UCLA during the tip. USC leads Montgomery’s recruitment for the time being, as his godfather, Keynodo Hudson, works in the Trojans’ football office.
