RCS Miami: Signing Day survey
MIAMI -- National Signing Day is a must-watch annual spectacle for college football fans, but many of the younger players who hope to see their names on national TV one day also pay close attention to the proceedings. Over the weekend at the Miami stop of the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas we surveyed some of the participants to see what caught their attention during this year’s big day.
Which school's signing class caught your eye?
“Nebraska getting a lot of kids from Florida was impressive. Kentucky also signed a lot of kids from my school and a lot of kids from Florida. I was just happy for my boys, it made me smile to think about a year from now when I’ll be signing. I think it’s smart for the schools up north to come down here and recruit Florida because we’re the best athletes in the country.” – Rivals100 WR John Dumore
“Miami has a lot of great players coming in.” – Class of 2021 WR Jacorey Brooks
“Georgia was No. 1 and that was really impressive. Georgia really impressed me. I’m just waiting on them to offer me. I’m going to give them a visit. I want to give them a fair chance.” - Rivals250 Florida State DE commit Quashon Fuller
“Georgia did really well.” - Class of 2020 WR Aydin Henningham
“I was surprised by how many recruits Georgia got.” – Rivals100 DB Tyler Scott
Did any prospect's decision surprise you?
“Nests Silvera sticking with Miami. I thought he was going to flip to Florida but it was a good surprise he didn’t. I was happy. I know he’s going to draw the double team and I’m going to come right around when we’re teammates.” – Williams
“Patrick Surtain. I thought he was going to go to LSU so it did surprise me.” – Bogle
“I didn’t think Pat was going to go to Alabama. I’ve played against him my whole life. My only losses are against them. He shocked me.” – Three-star QB Nik Scalzo
“Miles Jones flipping and going to Nebraska, that was big. I didn’t think he was going to switch. It was probably Coach (Scott) Frost. If i could play behind coach Frost I would probably end up going there too.” – Scalzo
“Tyson [Campbell] going to Georgia is what I’ll remember. I didn’t think he was going to go there. I thought he was going to stay home.” - Scott
Was there any one moment that stood out?
“The boys at American Heritage (Surtain, Campbell, Silvera, Andrew Chatfield) committing. All of them made the right decision. It’s the first decision that you’re going to. make as a man so Nesta going to Miami is big, Chatfield going to Florida will be a factor Surtain should be good at Alabama.” – Bogle
“Nesta showed me that loyalty means a lot. By sticking to his commitment, he showed that he’s committed to trying to bring The U back and that’s what it’s all about. Puttin’ on for the crib.” – Three-star OG Jamari Williams
“Really the one that was going viral when (Jacob Copeland's) mom walked off. That’s bold. That’s a bold move.” – Brooks
“When the mother got up and walked off. I was like wow, when I saw it, I was like wow, why would she do that? But she came back. It still shocked everyone.” – Henningham
“I just pay attention to stories about the struggle. I liked reading about the things people overcame and what they went through to get where they are.” – Three-star DE Ge’Mon Eaford
“It just had me thinking about a year from now that I’ll be signing. I liked watching the guys I knew. Even in the early period, watching Xavier Williams and Shaun Shivers sign. I liked watching my boys sign.” - Dunmore
“I was just picturing myself there in 2020. I didn’t pay attention to any of the other guys. I was just proud of the guys I know.” – Class of 2020 DE Devon Betty
