RCS Charlotte: Fab 15 defense

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte edition of the Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour is always stacked with talented players from the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Defensive backs and defensive linemen dominated the list of top defenders from the camp on Sunday.

Recruiting wrap: Lawler is committed to North Carolina.

Performance: No player on either side of the ball had as dominant a performance as Lawler. He is extremely fast at the snap and plays with great pad level. If his speed didn't beat the offensive lineman, he used a strong rip move to win the rep to the inside or outside. He also has a great motor. If his first move didn't work, he always had a second and made it to the quarterback.

Recruiting wrap: Pitts is favoring Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida, Clemson, Maryland and West Virginia.

Performance: True safeties usually have a difficult time in the camp setting but Pitts really shined. He's made a lot of progress as a defensive back. Pitts played from safety depth during one-on-ones and did a good job of breaking on passes thrown in front of him, grabbing one interception on a deep hook. If receivers tried to go downfield on him, Pitts knew how to be physical with them. He also pulled in a juggling interception on a skinny post pattern.

Recruiting wrap: Brown is committed to Arizona State but he has taken visits to Virginia, Virginia Tech and Penn State. He is going to visit Arizona State again this summer but is also looking into visits to Nebraska, Notre Dame and Michigan State.

Performance: No pure cornerback had a better day than Brown. He was physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage and on short routes. Brown's fluid hips allowed him to quickly turn and run with receivers when he need to but he also didn't get fooled by double moves. His long arms helped him break up passes and made quarterbacks throw errant passes.

Recruiting wrap: Virginia Tech, Clemson, Florida, and Alabama seem to be in the best position with Hunter.

Performance: Hunter is another safety prospect who had an excellent day. He played one-on-ones from safety depth and made the most of every rep he took. He was physical with players as they came into his zone and broke well on short passes. Hunter broke up a few passes on slants and recorded an interception.

Recruiting wrap: Tennessee, Clemson and Virginia Tech are the top contenders for Williams.

Performance: Williams has great size and is very quick. He won a lot of reps with an inside swim move and was much more powerful than his opponents realized. There is a lot of room to fill out Williams' frame as well.

Recruiting wrap: Williams is committed to Clemson.

Performance: Williams was one of the bigger defensive backs in attendance and he gave a lot of wide receivers problems. Crossing routes and downfield routes by receivers did not have much success against Williams, who did a good job of disrupting the quarterback's timing. He also has a good sense of timing, leaping and swatting down passes.

Recruiting wrap: N.C. State, Duke, South Carolina and Penn State are the leaders for Butler.

Performance: Butler is a high-potential prospect with a ton of athleticism. He had a lot of success using a variety of pass-rushing techniques. Butler was fast enough to blow past offensive linemen, used a strong outside rip move and a good double hand slap to disengage from his opponent.

Recruiting wrap: Wake Forest is the only school to offer Tisdale so far.

Performance: In a bit of an upset, Tisdale won the linebacker MVP award. His speed, length and ability to cover in space led to a lot of success in one-on-ones. It's a little surprising Tisdale still has just one offer despite his size, athleticism, physicality and excellent film.

Recruiting wrap: Hollifield has a handful of offers and has visits scheduled to Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

Performance: Running backs and tight ends had a very difficult time getting around Hollifield. He was very physical and had the speed to keep them from separating from him in the open field. Hollifield's performance nearly earned him the linebacker MVP award.

Recruiting wrap: Ohio State leads Michigan, Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame for Ewell.

Performance: Ewell was probably the strongest prospect at the camp. There were only a few reps where the offensive lineman could stop Ewell's forward momentum. His pass rushing moves showed some improvement over his past performances. Ewell also took a few reps as an offensive lineman and did well there.

Recruiting wrap: Charlotte is the only school to offer Hunt.

Performance: After his performance, Hunt won't be a sleeper for much longer. His aggressiveness combined with his excellent length caught a lot of receivers off guard. It was also impressive to see how well he was able to anticipate throws and get a good jump on the ball. Don't be surprised when more offers start coming in for Hunt.

Recruiting wrap: Offers from Tennessee, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, Clemson and Michigan stand out to Gaddy.

Performance: Gaddy is a massive interior defensive lineman who will require double teams. He is surprisingly quick at the snap and if he got even a half step off before the offensive lineman moved, they weren't able to stop him. Gaddy doesn't have an extensive repertoire of pass rushing moves, but the moves he did use were effective.

Recruiting wrap: Georgia Tech, Duke, Indiana and a few other schools have been showing interest in Bacon.

Performance: Bacon was eating up wide receivers all day. He has great length and was very physical at the snap and once the receivers were downfield. He knocked down his fair share of passes but he really just made it so difficult for the quarterbacks to throw catchable balls to his receiver.

Recruiting wrap: Holliday is getting interest from Mississippi State, North Carolina and Georgia State.

Performance: Even though Holliday isn't the biggest cornerback he was still very good in coverage. He didn't get shoved aside by bigger receivers and had more than enough speed to stick with his man. He had at least two interceptions.

Recruiting wrap: Schools have yet to take a closer look at Hughes.

Performance: Hughes is a high-effort defensive back that made a lot of plays all over the field. He could often be found diving to make plays. Hughes had several pass breakups and was a thorn in the side of wide receivers all day. His speed allowed him to stay close enough to receivers to be able to consistently make plays on the ball.
