Three-star running back AJ Turner originally planned to wait a while before committing but now the Clifton (Va.) Centreville star has decided to accelerate that timetable. With a top five of Clemson, Virginia, Michigan State, Ohio State and South Carolina, Turner has decided to commit on Thursday.
"My mind isn't totally made up yet," said the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Turner. "Clemson, Virginia, Michigan State, Ohio State and South Carolina are my top five but I think my top three are South Carolina, Michigan State and Virginia."
Turner broke down why each school remains in contention.
South Carolina- "They definitely have a chance to win a national title," he said. "I'll be in a really good position if I go there. I'll be one of four running backs there when I get on campus."
Michigan State- "I think that they will use me in a lot of good ways," Turner said. "I'll be able to play running back, kick return and have a chance to play defense. They'll give the option to be a utility player so I could play in the slot to be a receiver, running back, wildcat quarterback and some things like that. I think they're a powerhouse football team. Even though it's cold up there, the stadium is big they have a lot fans up there.
"I'm close with coach Burton," he said. "I know they offered me kind of late but he still took me in when I visited he made me feel like I would destined to be there. I saw the facilities and spoke to coach Dantonio, the head coach. He's a really genuine guy and is really laid back. I got a good vibe from him."
Virginia- "The coaches made it clear to me that I have a very good chance of starting there," said Turner. "He said that I was their number one running back that they were recruiting and if they could get me they wouldn't recruit another running back. That really stuck out to me. I feel like they're a program on the rise. As of right now they may not be the best but I can really tell they are starting something good there. They'll have a great season this year and we'll see what happens next year."
Turner has already visited all three schools and plans to commit on Thursday.
