RB Making A Statement

Running back Joel McClenney is off to a fast start this season.
“I had 161 yards and three touchdowns against North Lenoir High School in our opener,” said the 5-foot-10, 194-pounder from Perquimans County High School in Hertford, NC. “I also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. They’re two classifications larger than us so it was a good game.”

He did even better in his second game. Against Edenton-Holmes, a team Perquimans hadn’t beaten in 17 years, McClenney had 36 carries for 283 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team to a 42-6 win.
“They’ve always held me in check before too,” he said. “I’d never run for more than 100 yards against them before.”
McClenney has an offer from East Carolina and could get an offer from North Carolina very soon. He also likes NC State, Georgia and Wake Forest.
“I probably won’t decide until well after the season is over,” he said. “I’ll take a few visits and probably decide in February.”
McClenney ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the East Carolina camp this summer.
